What strike rate measures

Strike rate is runs per hundred balls faced. It answers one question: how quickly did this batter score? A strike rate of 100 means a run a ball.

What counts as good

The number only means something inside its format. In Tests, anything above 55 is brisk and above 70 is unusual. In ODIs, 90 is par and 110 is aggressive. In T20 the floor is roughly 125 and openers regularly clear 150. Comparing a Test strike rate with a T20 one tells you nothing at all.

Strike rate also ignores dismissals entirely, which is why it is read next to batting average rather than instead of it.
