Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Kumar Das is set to miss the upcoming white-ball series against Afghanistan due to a back injury.

Team sources confirmed that Litton, who has been in fine form, will need at least three weeks to recover. The injury had already ruled him out of the Super Four games against India and Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup. Bangladesh lost both matches and failed to qualify for the final.

“I think he will need at least three weeks to recover so chances are slim of seeing him (Litton) during the series against Afghanistan,” an official working closely with the national team confirmed to Cricbuzz.

Litton sustained the back strain during training at the ICC Academy Ground on September 22. He felt discomfort on the left side of his waist while attempting a square cut in the nets. After being assessed by team physio Bayzid ul Islam, he was withdrawn from the session and later ruled out of the tournament.

Jaker Ali led the side in the matches against India and Pakistan and is expected to continue unless the selectors opt for a change, given his recent form with the bat.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is yet to announce the squad for the T20Is and ODIs against Afghanistan. The team is expected to resume training on September 29.

The three-match T20I series will be played in Sharjah from October 2 to 5, while the ODIs will be held in Abu Dhabi on October 8, 11 and 14.
