A rare bright point in the Heat’s winless 2025 season, Sarah Glenn has returned to boost the club’s spin stocks
Brisbane Heat have secured their first overseas signing ahead of Weber WBBL|12, with England leg-spinner Sarah Glenn to return to the club for a third season.
Glenn has signed a one-year contract and is the first overseas player to sign a new deal with any club for the coming season under the new direct signing rules, which replaced the draft system that was in place for the past three years.
The 27-year-old played two matches for Brisbane last season after coming in as a replacement for South African Nadine de Klerk and was a rare shining light in a winless campaign cruelled by injuries and absences.
In those two appearances, Glenn took six wickets at 10.66, finishing as the Heat’s second highest wicket taker behind Australia quick Lucy Hamilton’s eight.
She previously played for Brisbane in WBBL|09, taking six wickets in five matches, and will be available for the entire season.
Glenn, who has taken more than 100 international wickets, missed out on England’s T20 World Cup campaign after fracturing her thumb during a national team training camp in South Africa in March.
She recently returned to the field for Yorkshire in county cricket, playing alongside former Heat captain Jess Jonassen, and Southern Brave in The Hundred, where she was teammates with Charli Knott.
“We’re rapt to have ‘Glenny’ back with us, and this time for the entire competition,” Heat coach Mark Sorell said.
“She’s an outstanding person, great team player, and as we have seen, a very skilful bowler who will complement our attack in whatever role we ask of her.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on her bowling during the year and her efforts for Yorkshire and for the Southern Brave in The Hundred have been excellent.”
Brisbane will be desperate for an improved WBBL after becoming the first team to go winless through an entire season in 2025, while they will also need to appoint a new captain after Jonassen stepped away from the role.
Jonassen remains contracted with the club however, and will continue to be a vital all-round member of their line-up with her left-arm spin complementing Glenn’s leggies and Knott’s off-spin.
