Ahtesham to face Hassan in U-18 final at national tennis – Sport

KARACHI: Ahtesham Humiyun and Hassan Usmani registered convincing wins to set up the 21st Westbury National Tennis Championship final in the Under-18 category here at the Karachi Club on Tuesday.

Ahtesham swept aside Muzammil Bhand 6-2, 6-3, while Hassan downed Muhammad Yahya 7-5, 6-0 to book their spots in the final. Romaisa Malik, meanwhile, routed Safa Afzal 6-1, 6-0 in the girls U-18 semi-final.

In the men’s quarter-finals Kashan Tariq overpowered Asif Ali Bachani 8-2 and Ismail Aftab beat Taimoor Ansari with the same score.

Eschelle Asif delivered a flawless 8-0 victory over Taiba Yar Baig in the women’s last-four clash.

Earlier, in the girls U-14 semis Romaisa Malik crushed Dua Yousuf 4-1, 4-0 and Shahnoor Umer overwhelmed Shahreen Umer with an identical scoreline.

Boys Under-14 quarter-finals action saw Mohammad Junaid cruising past Zohaib Amjad 4-0, 4-2 and Rashid Ali Bachani hammering Aahil Imran 4-0, 4-0.

Ibrahim Hussain Gill advanced into the U-12 final after recording a 4-2, 4-0 win over Majid Bachani.

Shahzain Anas annexed the Under-7 title after a 10-6, 12-10 win over Zohayr Imad

RESULTS:

Boys Under-10 (quarter-final): M. Ayan Essa Jee bt Sophie Allawala 4-1, 4-0

Men’s doubles 35-plus (semi-final): Farhan Altaf/Rizwan bt Yasir/Zeeshan 8-0

Men’s doubles 55-plus (quarter-final): Mohammad Iltifat/Javed Iqbal bt Amir Suleman/Tahir Iqbal 8-0.
