South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been fined for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Australia on Tuesday.

Bosch was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions, or gestures that can offend or provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon their dismissal during an international match.”

The incident took place in the 17th over of Australia’s innings when, after dismissing Ben Dwarshuis, Bosch made a provocative gesture towards the Australian dugout.

As a result, Bosch received one demerit point on his disciplinary record. He accepted the sanction proposed by the ICC Match Officials, which meant no formal hearing was required.

The match was crucial for South Africa, who were trailing 1-0 in the three-match series and needed a win to stay alive. After a quick start, young batting star Dewald Brevis produced a brilliant unbeaten 125 from just 56 balls, helping South Africa post 218/7. His century came off only 41 deliveries, making him the youngest South African to score a T20I hundred and the second-fastest in the country’s history.

Australia’s Tim David hit a quickfire 50 from 24 balls to keep the chase alive, but Bosch and Kwena Maphaka took three wickets each to bowl the visitors out for 165, sealing a 53-run win for the Proteas.

The series is now level at 1-1, with the decider set to be played in Cairns on Saturday, 16 August, before the ODI series begins on 19 August.
