West Indies defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a rain-affected second ODI at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba on Sunday, leveling the three-match series 1-1.

Chasing a revised target of 181 in 35 overs, the hosts reached the target in 33.2 overs, with Roston Chase and Sherfane Rutherford playing key roles.

Hasan Ali gave Pakistan an early breakthrough by removing Brandon King for 1 in the second over and then dismissing Evin Lewis, who scored 7, in the fourth over. The hosts slipped further when Keacy Carty was bowled for 16, giving Abrar Ahmed his first wicket, leaving West Indies at 48-3.

Rutherford then shifted the momentum with an aggressive counterattack. He smashed two fours and a six in one over from Shaheen Afridi, helping his side recover to 81-3 in 17 overs. He continued his charge against Salman Ali Agha, adding 20 runs in an over during a 50-run stand with skipper Shai Hope.

Mohammad Nawaz broke the partnership by dismissing Hope for 32 off 35 balls. Nawaz struck again to remove Rutherford for 45 off 33 balls, which included four fours and three sixes. At 107-5, Pakistan sensed a chance, but Chase and Justin Greaves ensured there were no further setbacks. The pair added an unbeaten 77-run stand, with Chase finishing on 49 not out from 47 balls and Greaves on 26 off 31 deliveries.

For Pakistan, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Nawaz picked up two wickets each, while Abrar Ahmed took one.

Earlier, Pakistan made a steady start, reaching 37 without loss before Jayden Seales produced a double-wicket maiden, removing Saim Ayub for 23 and Babar Azam for a duck. Abdullah Shafique made 26 before falling in the 17th over, while Mohammad Rizwan managed 16 from 38 balls. Hussain Talat contributed 31 off 32 deliveries, but it was Hasan Nawaz’s late hitting—36 not out from 30 balls with three sixes—that pushed Pakistan to 171-7 in the rain-shortened innings. Shaheen Afridi chipped in with 11 not out.

Seales was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies, finishing with 3-23, while Jediah Blades, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, and Chase took a wicket each.

The series decider will be played on Tuesday at the same venue.
