Women’s players to watch: After retiring from England duty, Tammy Beaumont will hope to light up The Hundred yet again. She is one of only two women to hit a hundred in the competition, alongside her Phoenix team-mate Davina Perrin. Perrin, 19, truly announced herself with a 42-ball ton for Northern Superchargers in last year’s eliminator and could form a potent opening pairing with Beaumont for Phoenix before perhaps replacing her at England level.

Men’s players to watch: An outsider for the role of England Test captain following Ben Stokes’ retirement is Jacob Bethell, who will get the chance to show his leadership skills when he skippers Phoenix. Expect the 22-year-old to fire with bat, ball and in the field. Bethell’s fellow spinner, Pakistan international Usman Tariq, has a bizarre and at times mocked stop-start, low-arm bowling action but he is an extremely effective operator, so keep an eye on him, too.

London Spirit

Knitting things together is captain Charlie Dean, who deputised well as England skipper this summer when Nat Sciver-Brunt was injured and seems her long-term successor. Charis Pavely has been in fine form with the bat for England A and a good Hundred will push her claims for a spot in the senior set-up.

Men’s players to watch: Spirit can bank on the experience of David Willey, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone and Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa but plenty of eyes will be on spin-bowling all-rounder James Coles to see if he can live up to the £390k the club forked out for him in the auction. He seems unflappable so should be fine. Sussex team-mate Henry Crocombe – off to Surrey at the end of the season – is a seamer of great promise and in the England mix.

Beyond the big names, left-arm seamer Grace Ballinger took 20 wickets during The Blaze’s Vitality Blast triumph while left-handed batter Grace Scrivens amassed 428 runs for Essex. Both southpaws should be on England’s radar.

Men’s players to watch: Super Giants coach Justin Langer will hog much of the attention – the Australian is rumoured to be the frontrunner for the vacant England Test role. On the field, Jos Buttler, Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram could devastate with the bat, while Tawanda Muyeye possesses all the shots. Seamer James Sales was superb during Northants’ recent Blast win, taking 25 wickets all told, including three in the final versus Hampshire.

Expect West Indies’ Hayley Matthews and Melie Kerr, who lead their respective nations, to give Armitage strong support as well as hoover up runs and wickets. England veteran Danni Wyatt-Hodge and England hopeful Kira Chathli add to a potent batting line-up.

The acquisitions of Afghanistan leg-spin maestro Rashid Khan and English run-machine James Vince look wise, while young pacers Eddie Jack and Seb Morgan could add to their reputations.

Brave have only missed out on one final over the first five editions of The Hundred and with recent T20 World Cup-winning Australia captain Sophie Molineux and South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt in tow, they look strong again.

Men’s players to watch: Wickets should not be a problem for Brave with England bowling linchpins Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid leading an attack that also features England alumnus Chris Jordan. Another seamer, 17-year-old Hampshire quick Manny Lumsden, could impress if he is able to get game-time. Batting-wise, Brave will look to England Test wicketkeeper Jamie Smith and a man who could be that in time, 18-year-old Thomas Rew, plus Australia biffer Marcus Stoinis.

SunRisers Leeds

She has recent World Cup-winning experience to lean on in Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland, who were part of Australia’s T20 triumph at Lord’s earlier this month. and Deepti Sharna, who helped India to 50-over glory on home soil in 2025. Scotland international Darcey Carter, 21, is a huge prospect with bat and ball.

He plays some outrageous shots – lots of them outrageously good, some of them outrageously bad – and can take a game away from the opposition in a heartbeat. Jettisoned England man Zak Crawley will skipper Sunrisers and likely open with Australia’s Mitchell Marsh, whose compatriot Nathan Ellis has a real box of tricks with the ball.

Gardner and Adams’ off-spin will be key for Rockets as well, while Millicent Taylor provides left-arm wrist spin and the experienced Katie Levick leg-spin. Mooney and Gardner’s fellow Aussie, seam bowler Kim Garth, is usually bang on with the new ball.

Men’s players to watch: Fresh from smoking the record individual score in a Lord’s ODI – his knock of 141 eclipsing the great Sir Vivian Richards – England’s Ben Duckett will look to carry that form into The Hundred for Rockets. The Midlanders’ squad contains one of the biggest six smashers in the game in Australia’s Tim David and a captain in Sam Billings who led Oval Invincibles to a Hundred three-peat between 2023 and 2025. Billings’ signing looks a shrewd one.

Fire captain Sophie Devine retired from international cricket with New Zealand after that tournament but remains one of the most sought-after names in the domestic game, principally for her batting but also her leadership and bowling. Rhianna Southby is one of the slickest wicketkeepers around.

Men’s players to watch: It is never anything but a pleasure to watch Joe Root bat – the man oozes class and scores oodles of runs in every format. The England great is joined in the Fire line-up by last year’s Player of the Tournament Jordan Cox – he plundered 367 runs for Invincibles in 2025 – and swashbuckling England T20 opener Phil Salt. Chris Woakes, widely accepted as the nicest man in cricket, helms a bowling attack featuring giant South African Marco Jansen.
