Aminul Islam has been re-elected as the Bangladesh Cricket Board president following the board election that took place at a city hotel on Monday (October 6). Former national skipper Khaled Mashud was elected to the BCB board as one of the 23 directors.

Mashud, who led Bangladesh during the early years of its Test journey, secured 35 votes to win from the category reserved for former cricketers, government, and autonomous bodies (Category 3).

According to the returning officer, Dr Sheikh Jubayed Hasan, 23 directors were elected from three categories as per the BCB constitution – 10 from district and division representatives, 12 from Dhaka clubs, and one from the former players’ category.

Following the BCB election, directors inside the hotel room elected Aminul as their board president while Shakhawat Hossain and Faruque Ahmed were elected as vice-presidents.

“Aminul Islam is elected unopposed as BCB president,” chief election commissioner Mohammad Hossain told reporters on Monday. “There were only two candidates for two vice president post and it was Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain and Faruque Ahmed,” he said adding that they tried to hold a free and fair election.

A total of 156 votes were eligible in the BCB election, of which 115 votes were cast, marking a voter turnout of 73.71 per cent. This high participation rate reflects strong engagement from the electorate across all categories, including district representatives, Dhaka clubs, and the former players’ quota.

Dhaka Division: Aminul Islam (15 votes), Nazmul Abedeen Fahim (15)

Rajshahi Division: Mokhlesur Rahman (7)
