It came down to the final match on the final day of the qualifiers, as Scotland and the USA battled it out for the last remaining spot for the maquee event.
Scotland, who made Women’s T20 World Cup debut in 2024, won the toss and elected to bat first against the USA. With opener Darcey Carter in top form, the European side put up a formidable 178/8 on the board. Carter top scored with 52 off 34 balls, with the help of seven fours and two sixes. Lower down the order, Alisa Lister (43) and Priyanaz Chatterji (39) made sure Scotland carried the momentum.
Pacer Tara Norris, who finished as the top wicket-taker at the qualifying tournament, was once again the best US bowler on show as she claimed 4/33.
Kathryn Bryce gave Scotland the perfect start, as she dismissed USA’s Disha Dhingra in the first over. Chetna Pagydyala (24) and Ella Claridge (35) tried to get the chase going, with a 61-run partnership for the second wicket. But once they departed, the US challenge quickly dissipated and were bowled out for 137 in 19 overs.
Bryce, Chatterji and Chloe Abel claimed two wickets each to help Scotland to a 41-run win and seal the World Cup berth.
