Two more teams have booked their spots for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, as Italy and the Netherlands secured qualification through the Europe Region Final held in The Hague.

The Netherlands finished top of the standings with six points in four matches, while Italy, despite losing their final match against the hosts, finished second on net run rate to grab the final qualification spot. Both teams will now join the global tournament, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka next year.

In their final match of the qualifier, the Netherlands produced a commanding performance to defeat Italy by nine wickets at Sportpark Westvliet. Chasing a modest target of 135, the Dutch side cruised home in just 16.2 overs, losing only one wicket.

Max O’Dowd top-scored with an unbeaten 47 off 42 balls, while Michael Levitt (34) and captain Scott Edwards (37)* provided solid support. For Italy, Crishan Kalugamage claimed the only wicket.

Earlier, Italy opted to bat first and posted 134/7 in 20 overs. Their innings was anchored by Ben Manenti’s 30 off 27 balls, with notable contributions from Grant Stewart (25), Harry Manenti (23), and captain Joe Burns (22).

The Netherlands’ bowling attack was led by Roelof van der Merwe, who returned excellent figures of 3/15, while Kyle Klein picked up two wickets and Aryan Dutt added one to restrict Italy to a modest total.

Despite the defeat, Italy secured their first-ever T20 World Cup berth by finishing second in the standings. Heading into their final game, Italy were top of the table with five points from three matches. To qualify, they needed to avoid a heavy defeat, which could have allowed Jersey—who stunned Scotland earlier that day—to overtake them on net run rate.

The Italian bowlers, although unable to defend the total, showed great discipline in preventing the Netherlands from chasing down the target too quickly — a key factor in securing qualification.

This historic achievement marks a significant milestone for Italian cricket, which has seen steady progress in recent years.

The Netherlands began their campaign with a seven-wicket win over Jersey, followed by a narrow six-run loss to Scotland. They bounced back with a 73-run win over Guernsey, setting up their final clash against Italy.

Italy’s qualification journey was defined by their strong performances early in the tournament, with wins over Scotland and Guernsey, before their final-day defeat to the Netherlands.

So far, 15 teams have secured their place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Three more teams will qualify from the East Asia-Pacific (EAP) qualifier, while two additional spots will be filled through the Africa qualifier.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 qualified teams:

India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, Afghanistan, USA, Canada, Scotland, Netherlands, Italy.
