West Indies are through to the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup after maintaining their perfect record so far by beating Nepal by nine wickets in Mumbai.

Restricting their opponents to 133-8 after a commanding display with the ball and in the field, West Indies got the job done with the bat inside 15.2 overs, losing just one wicket, to register their third win from as many matches in Group C, England’s group, with a game against Italy to spare.

Jason Holder earned player of the match honours thanks to his 4-27 with the ball, while Shai Hope (61 not out) and Shimron Hetmyer (46 not out) combined with the bat to help get West Indies to their 134 target with the minimum of fuss.

Holder said: “We were able to get a bit of movement, which was key, and I thought our bowlers bowled a really tight line to them up front which was key in terms of our execution.

“So credit not only to me but also Matthew [Forde, 1-10] as well. I thought he bowled an outstanding spell out front to set the tone for us and then we were able to adjust from there.”

Dipendra Singh Airee (58 off 47 balls) was the only Nepalese player to record a half-century before he was caught by Rovman Powell off Holder’s delivery.

West Indies will round off their group matches against Italy in Kolkata on Thursday, with England now aiming to secure the second automatic qualification place to the Super 8s.

Having lost all three of their group matches, Nepal will now play for pride when they face Scotland in Mumbai on Tuesday.
