San Francisco Unicorns made light work of a 199-run target to beat Texas Super Kings by seven wickets and continue their unbeaten run in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC).

SFU’s chase got off to a flying start, thanks to a belligerent 117-run opening partnership between Matthew Short and Finn Allen. Short led the charge early on, making 69 off 21 with clean hits all around the ground. Allen soon joined the party, striking eight sixes in a brutal 78 off just 35 balls. The duo ensured that the powerplay yielded 83 runs.

Even after Short holed out in the deep, Jake Fraser-McGurk kept the momentum going, smashing 37 off 25 balls. He fell with just two runs to get but had done enough to set up a win with as many as 23 balls to spare.

Earlier, TSK rode on a superb hundred from captain Faf du Plessis, who made 100 off 51 balls, putting on a 97-run stand with his opening partner Devon Conway and then a 69-run stand with Sai Teja Mukkamalla. However, once du Plessis and Mukkamalla fell in the space of two deliveries, the side lost steam in the final overs, scoring only 38 in the last five overs, a phase of play that came back to bite them and brought about their first loss this season.

Brief Scores: Texas Super Kings 198/5 in 20 overs (Faf du Plessis 100, Sai Teja Mukkamalla 38; Xavier Bartlett 2/31, Haris Rauf 2/34) lost to San Francisco Unicorns 202/3 in 16.1 overs (Finn Allen 78, Matthew Short 61; Adam Milne 1/24, Mohammad Mohsin 1/29) by 7 wickets
