San Francisco Unicorns continued their dream unbeaten run in MLC 2025, registering their fifth win on the trot with a dominant 47-run victory over MI New York. Batting first on a good Dallas pitch, SFU piled on a mammoth 246/4, thanks to Matthew Short’s 43-ball 91 at the top. And despite a fiery start by MINY’s openers, the chase ran out of steam in the second half. The defending champions eventually finished on 199/6, well short of the target.

With Finn Allen unwell, Tim Seifert opened alongside skipper Short, and the pair gave SFU a breezy start (63/0) in the powerplay. Short then combined with Jake Fraser-McGurk for a blistering second-wicket stand that included a 26-run over off Michael Bracewell. Short fell on 91 while Fraser-McGurk made a 26-ball 64, both batters targeting the shorter boundary with success. Sanjay Krishnamurthi (27* off 16) and Hassan Khan’s (31* off 9) late cameos ensured SFU breached the 240-mark, hammering 38 off the final two overs.

Chasing 247, MINY began brightly with Monank Patel and Quinton de Kock adding 119 for the opening stand. De Kock scored 70 off 46 balls but Monank was the aggressor early, racing to a 25-ball fifty but de Kock caught up later, bringing up his half-century off 30 balls. Once Liam Plunkett dismissed Monank and Nicholas Pooran fell controversially to Haris Rauf’s wide yorker, MINY’s innings unraveled. Romario Shepherd, who picked the wicket of de Kock, and Xavier Bartlett bowled key overs, sharing four wickets between them to keep pegging back MINY. Despite some late fireworks from Kieron Pollard, the required rate was always out of reach as MINY succumbed to their fourth defeat in five games.

Brief Scores: San Fancisco Unicorns 246/4 (Short 91, Fraser-McGurk 64; Pollard 2-31) beat MI New York 199/6 (De Kock 70; Shepherd 2-30, Bartlett 2-35) by 47 runs
