Who Will Get Place in Today’s Match?

IPL 2025, SRH vs PBKS Predicted Playing 11 Today Match, Full Squad: Pat Cummins’ struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad will host an upbeat Punjab Kings led by Shreyas Iyer in the Indian Premier League 2025 Match No. 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday’s second match. Sitting at the bottom of the points table with just one win in five matches, SRH need a quick turnaround before things become impossible for the previous year’s finalist.

Punjab beat Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders in two consecutive games and appear to be a solid contender for the top four spot. Their batting unit looks very dangerous at the moment with multiple stars coming into the fore. It was Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran towards the start of the campaign before Priyansh Arya lit the IPL by slamming the second-fastest century by an Indian in IPL during the match against Chennai Super Kings. For a change, PBKS could bring in Yash Thakur as Impact Sub if fielding first.

SRH, meanwhile, have to recalibrate their batting while their bowling need some major reinforcement. Skipper Cummins has looked pale with the ball in the middle and slog overs. Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel can stay in the XI with Mohammed Shami and Cummins being the other two pacers SRH can also look to bring back Rahul Chahar, to show his skills against his former team. Adam Zampa can also replace Kamindu Mendis in the playing XI.

How MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings Can Still Qualify For IPL 2025 Playoffs

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s recent form has raised massive doubts over their chances to qualify for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Following their latest defeat to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday, CSK sit ninth in the points table with two points from six matches and net run-rate of -1.554. With eight matches left, CSK would need to pull off a massive turnaround in order to finish in the top four at the end of the league phase. Generally, teams with 16 points at the end of the league phase are all but guaranteed to finish in the playoff places.

Last season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) qualified for the playoffs despite losing seven of their first eight matches. In fact, they finished fourth with 14 points from as many matches.

Considering that, CSK also have an outside chance of qualifying for the playoffs. However, they would have to win their remaining matches, and also hope that other results go their way.

If CSK win all of their remaining matches, they’ll end the group stage with 16 points from 14 matches. Even if they finish with 14 points, they would still have an outside chance of making it to the playoffs.

CSK are currently on a five game losing streak, following the loss to KKR. CSK stand-in captain MS Dhoni opened up on the reason behind the team’s loss in the 25th encounter of the cash-rich league.

“It has been quite a few nights that have not gone our way. The challenge has been there, we have to accept the challenge. Today, I felt we did not have enough runs on the board. It has been the case over there; when we bowled in the 2nd innings, it stopped a bit. Today, it did in the first innings. When you lose too many wickets, there is pressure and with quality spinners, it is difficult. We never got any partnerships, and a bit more partnerships, application, and we would be fine. What is important is to see the conditions,” MS Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.

Further, the wicketkeeper-batter said that the middle order needs to step up; if they don’t, it will be difficult for the five-time champions to win the game this season.

“We have done a couple of games decently well, so back your strengths and play the shots you can play. Not match to someone’s else play. Our openers are good openers, play authentic cricket shots, they don’t slog or look to hit across the line. It is important not to get desperate seeing the scorecard. If we start looking for 60 with our lineup, it will be very difficult for us. Get partnerships going, maybe capitalise in the middle and later overs, and if we lose wickets, the middle order has to do their job differently. And the slog will be delayed for quite a while,” the 43-year-old player added.

Both teams have unavailable players in their pace ranks with Mayank Yadav still not fully fit to join the LSG squad while Kagiso Rabada is still absent after leaving GT to go back home to deal with some personal matter.

IPL 2025’s top uncapped players who are standing out this season

In 18 editions, the Indian Premier League has proven to be the fastest way to catch the eyes of the world for upcoming talents. The world has witnessed several emerging stars who have later featured in the national team set-up as well. Similarly, there are several uncapped players in this IPL 2025 season so far who have come under the spotlight with their fiery performances, providing a thrilling start to the season.

In the first 25 matches of IPL 2025, there have been many players who have caught the eye with their performances. Here’s a look at some of the rising stars who stole the limelight:

Priyansh Arya (PBKS): The 24-year-old Delhi-based domestic cricketer, who made his debut in March 2025 for Punjab Kings, smashed the fastest IPL century by an uncapped batter, and the second-fastest by an Indian, against CSK recently. His 42-ball 103-run knock made him only the eighth uncapped batter to reach the three-figure mark in the IPL. When he smashed a century in 39 balls, it also made him the joint-fourth-fastest centurion in IPL history.

Aniket Verma (SRH): The 23-year-old hard-hitting batter from Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a rising star for SRH after being picked up for his base price of Rs 30 lakh in the IPL auction. The right-handed batsman’s aggressive approach with the bat makes him stand out in IPL 2025. He made headlines when he smashed 74 runs off 41 balls against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025.

Ashwani Kumar (MI): Mumbai Indians’ left-arm pacer had an unforgettable debut against the reigning IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31. The young uncapped bowler etched his name in history books by becoming the first Indian to take four wickets on debut, which included the dismissal of KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane on his very first delivery.

Digvesh Singh Rathi (LSG): The young leg-spinner, Rathi, was picked up by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 30 lakh in the auction. On his debut on March 24, he made heads turn with his stellar performance against Delhi Capitals by dismissing Delhi captain Axar Patel on his third delivery. He has since earned a reputation for his send-offs to players in IPL 2025 after getting their wicket. After five innings, he had claimed seven wickets.

Vignesh Puthur (MI): The Kerala 24-year-old was included in the Mumbai Indians side which makes him a true success story. Despite facing several challenges, Puthur made it to the IPL thanks to MI’s scouting unit. The young left-arm-spinner stole the show on his remarkable debut by destroying the middle order of MI’s biggest rival, CSK, in a game by taking three crucial wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda.

CSK ‘Have Reached Patal Lok’: Ex-India Star Loses It After Thrashing By KKR In IPL 2025

Former Indian cricket team spinner Murali Kartik believes that Chennai Super Kings have reached their lowest point following the loss against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. With five losses in six matches, CSK are ninth in the competition and their flop show has resulted in a lot of criticism from both experts as well as fans. Following the humiliating loss against KKR, Kartik urged the five-time champions to ‘collectively dig in’ and try to reverse the situation. The former India star also referenced RCB’s run in IPL 2024 where they won six matches on the trot after a shocking start to their season.

“You can only come upwards from here. You cannot go any lower. It feels like they have reached patal lok (hell). The way this season has gone, you think that this is now my team and what I can do with it. The more you can collectively dig deep from here, the more you can reverse the situation like RCB did last year. They said that let us have a deep look at ourselves and they won six matches on the bounce. I think there is still hope and till you have thrown in the towel, there is still hope,” he said on Cricbuzz.

A disappointed Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni on Friday blamed his batters for the heavy defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders and urged them to avoid desperation and instead focus on better application to arrest the slide in the upcoming IPL matches.

CSK were restricted to 103 for nine, as KKR chased down the target in just 10.1 overs, handing the five-time champions their biggest defeat in IPL history in terms of balls remaining.

“It has been quite a few nights that has not gone our way. The challenge has been there, we have to accept the challenge. Today I felt we did not have enough runs on the board,” Dhoni said.

“It has been the case over here (Chepauk), when we bowled in the 2nd innings it stopped a bit, today it did in the first innings. When you lose too many wickets, there is pressure and with quality spinners it is difficult.” It was yet another dismal batting performance by the five-time champions, who were completely dismantled by a clinical KKR side, as CSK slumped to their fifth straight loss of the season.

Can a derailed SRH put things back on track?

A common thread between Adam Gilchrist and David Warner, apart from being Australians, is they have captained a Hyderabad-based franchise to IPL title in their second season. Another Australian, Pat Cummins, is also in his second season as Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper. It had all looked promising at the start—the hyper-aggressive brand of batting, and the reinforcements in the auction, all pointed towards another excellent season.

But last Sunday, against Gujarat Titans, the stands were half-empty with still quite a bit of game remaining. That was SRH’s fourth consecutive loss in a row. The ballistic Travishek combo, which was the key behind SRH winning most of their games last season, is yet to fire this season. Nitish Kumar Reddy after his promising last season and heroics in Australia in red-ball, has gone off the boil. Spin-killer Henrich Klaasen has lost his magic touch.

SRH have to make a quick turnaround if they are to progress deeper into the tournament. But head coach Daniel Vettori insists that they wouldn’t eschew their boom or bust approach with the bat. “I think when you know the reputation of the surface and our batsmen, then the burden is on the opposition bowling to really turn up and understand what they need to do. And so far, that’s what we’ve seen, albeit the one game, the first game that we had,” he observed.

Story continues below this ad

He is convinced of the blueprint to succeed. “And I suppose we can reflect back on that first game and say, we know the blueprint. We don’t necessarily have to get 270-280, but when our batsmen are able to, I suppose, dominate the power play and set it up for our middle-order batsmen and then score on the board for our bowlers to defend, that’s normally when we’re at our best,” he added.

While the common perception is that their batting has not clicked, the bowling too, despite the addition of Mohammed Shami and Harshal Patel, have not posed any threat to the batting units. Cummins’s batting cameos down the order have been more memorable than his bowling spells thus far. The absence of a quality spinner had hurt them last season, but to redress the flaw, they brought Adam Zampa and Rahul Chahar. While the former has been ineffective, the latter continues to warm the bench.

“I hate to say it, but it’s probably been, like I said, it’s all been all three disciplines. They haven’t been able to click in a game. We look back to last year and our skills were putting big scores on and then sort of holding on for dear life with the ball. But we haven’t been able to put those big scores together,” Vettori explained.

But he believes in IPL’s scope for quick turnarounds. “But the good thing about the IPL is there are quick turnarounds. There are opportunities to do well. And there are individual performances within those games. So I think there’s still some confidence within the batting group. But it’s the collective that needs to stand up now,” Vettori analysed.

Turnaround history

However, while things have not gone according to plan, IPL has had a history of quality teams starting slowly and going on to win trophies. Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (more than once) and Gautam Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 won the titles after getting written off.

Cummins knows this all too well. His Australian team in the 2023 World Cup was understated after a couple of poor results in the first two games. But for Glenn Maxwell’s whirlwind knock against Afghanistan, they would have even failed to qualify for the knockouts. But they kept the cool and comfortably defeated India in the final.

At the Border Gavaskar Trophy after getting thrashed in the first Test, his turned it around. “It’s probably slow, glacial maybe, in terms of starts. I don’t think Pat’s ever panicked in his life,” Vettori had said after the loss to the Titans.

“I think I’m pretty similar. But we understand the ramifications of losing four in a row and how difficult it makes the season,” Vettori added. With nine games still remaining SRH would need at least seven wins to reach the playoffs without depending on other results. But if they sli on Saturday again, they would be entering the virtual knock-out territory in every league match.
