IPL 2025 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: X-Factor Will Jacks Comes Good As Mumbai Indians Down SunRisers Hyderabad

A sprightly Mumbai Indians continued their ascent in the Indian Premier League with a four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a one-sided contest on a tricky wicket on Thursday. Led by Will Jacks who played a decisive role with a fine 36 (26 balls, 3x4s, 3x6s) after a crucial spell of 3-0-14-2, Mumbai Indians executed an all-round show to record their second consecutive win. However, there were no changes to the points table as MI, with six points, and SRH, with four points, remained seventh and ninth, respectively.

Similarly, there were no changes in the Orange Cap and Purple Cap lists, still led by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vice-captain Nicholas Pooran (357 runs) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Noor Ahmad (12 wickets), respectively.

The home side came on top for having assessed the Wankhede Stadium pitch accurately and adapting quickly to the conditions it presented, with each of the pieces falling in place for the five-time winners.

MI’s fast bowlers used the short and slower balls well throughout the first innings and nailed their yorkers perfectly. In the run chase, the MI batters showed a clear plan to keep finding the boundaries which kept them on top.

Chasing 163 on a pitch which had grip and turn, MI were also benefited by SRH’s reluctance to bring on spin in the powerplay, as the home side made 166/6 in 18.1 overs to record their third win of the season.

Even though Rohit Sharma endured another failure after a promising start in which he made 26 off 16 balls with three sixes, he gave MI the momentum with the bat and the others capitalised on it.

Opener Ryan Rickelton made a fluent 31 while Suryakumar Yadav hammered two sixes and as many fours to make 26 (off 15 balls) to provide a strong support to Jacks.

Captain Hardik Pandya played a crucial cameo of 21 off just nine balls to take MI to the threshold of victory. Tilak Varma (21 not out) then took MI over the line after a late minor hiccup as the home side reached 166 for 6 in 18.1 overs.

In the first half, Sunrisers Hyderabad found late momentum with the bat to fight their way through and post 162 for 5.

With the surface at the Wankhede Stadium providing grip and turn for the spinners and slower deliveries giving dividends to the pace bowlers, Sunrisers Hyderabad batters struggled to adapt to the wicket for most part of the innings.

But a big finish — 57 runs coming off the last five overs — gave SRH some much-needed impetus towards the end.

MI bowlers were spot-on in formulating their plans and near-perfect in their execution with Jasprit Bumrah delivering a measly 4-0-21-1, Trent Boult nailing his yorkers again to return 4-0-29-1 and Will Jacks producing an impressive 3-0-14-2.

The SRH struggle was evident from the start even as Abhishek Sharma stroked his way to 40 off 28 balls with seven boundaries.

It all started with an eventful first over when the two SRH openers got a reprieve each off Deepak Chahar.

Abhishek went down the wicket, swinging his bat on the first delivery. The ball shaped away slightly to take the edge but Jacks failed to get hold of it.

On the fourth delivery, Travis Head played one straight to Karn Sharma at midwicket where he failed to pluck a low catch as the ball fell just short of him.

Abhishek looked to be hitting his strides when he smacked three fours off Chahar in the fifth over but there was just no momentum gained.

Raj Angad Bawa timed his dive to grab the ball to dismiss Abhishek off Pandya for the first breakthrough and by then it was evident that SRH would have to scrape their way through to a competitive total.

Jacks then had former MI player Ishan Kishan stumped for a mere two.

Head was unable to open up even as he tried his best to cut loose. Despite having caught off a no-ball with Pandya overstepping, Head failed to capitalise as he fell for an ordinary 29-ball 28.

Such was the impact of MI’s control that the first six of the game came as late as in the 18th over — the best one of SRH’s innings — when Heinrich Klaasen (37 off 28 balls, 3x4s, 2x6s) took 21 runs to spoil Chahar’s figures (4-0-47-0).

In the final over, Aniket Verma hit a couple of sixes and Pat Cummins smacked one to take vital 22 runs off Pandya.

MI vs SRH, IPL 2025: Will Jacks stars in Mumbai Indians’ easy win over Sunrisers Hyderabad

Will Jacks displayed his mastery. And the pacers effectively used a tacky pitch up front by taking pace off the ball consistently.

It culminated in Mumbai Indians registering a facile four-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday in the Indian Premier League 2025.

Riding on Jacks’ all-round show, the home team trounced the visiting side with 11 balls to spare to start off a long weekend for Mumbaikars on a happy note at the Wankhede Stadium.

Having struggled to leave his footprint in MI’s blues thus far, Jacks came good in both the departments to set up the victory.

Even before captain Hardik Pandya introduced Jacks into the attack right after the PowerPlay, Karn Sharma had headed back into the dressing room after injuring his hand while lunging forward to catch a miscued jab off Abhishek Sharma’s blade.

Karn’s loss could well have tilted the tide in Sunrisers’ favour, especially with Jasprit Bumrah having bowled two overs in the PowerPlay.

Even though Abhishek and Travis Head were subdued — having played put together their slowest PowerPlay score (46) as a pair — they were not going to waste any time in going after Jacks.

But Jacks started off with a seven-run over. In his next, with Abhishek having succumbed to Hardik in the eighth, Jacks drew Ishan Kishan forward, spun the ball and Ryan Rickelton whipped the bails off in no time.

Jacks then struck the decisive blow that ensured MI didn’t have to chase down a big total by forcing Head to hole out to long-off.

Had it not been for Aniket Verma’s blitz at the death, Sunrisers would have struggled to cross the 160-run mark.

Impact Player Rohit Sharma produced a cameo and the MI middle-order ensured it didn’t lose the plot thereafter.

Jacks came good with the willow too. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik continued to accelerate with a combination of innovative strokeplay and power-hitting before Tilak Varma sealed the deal with a reverse-sweep off leggie Zeeshan Ansari.

Why was Rickelton’s dismissal overturned during Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad?

Mumbai Indians opener Ryan Rickelton was at the receiving end of a major reprieve during an IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Rickelton thought he was dismissed after he was caught by SRH skipper Pat Cummins off the bowling of Zeeshan Ansari.

But the South African batter was granted a second chance after the third umpire spotted that SRH keeper Heinrich Klaasen had pushed his gloves in front of the stump while Rickelton played the shot.

As per MCC rules (27.3), the wicket-keeper shall remain wholly behind the wicket at the striker’s end from the moment the ball comes into play until a ball delivered by the bowler – touches the bat or person of the striker or passes the wicket at the striker’s end or the striker attempts a run.

In the event of the wicket-keeper contravening this Law, the striker’s end umpire shall call and signal No ball as soon as applicable after the delivery of the ball.

Rickelton though couldn’t make much off his lucky break as he managed to add just 10 runs after that, eventually falling for 31.

Virender Sehwag’s ‘Jane Ka Time Aa Gaya’ Take Turns Prophetic As Rohit Sharma Fails Once Again

Former Indian cricket team batter Virender Sehwag was extremely critical of Rohit Sharma as the Mumbai Indians star continued to struggle for runs in the ongoing IPL 2025. Rohit, who came into the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad with 56 runs in five innings, was dismissed for 26 by Pat Cummins. Rohit’s dismal run has resulted in a lot of criticism from both experts as well as fans and Sehwag warned him that he needs to safeguard his legacy. Sehwag pointed out that he has just one 400-plus run IPL season and even hinted that it is time for Rohit to retire from the format.

“If you look at Rohit’s IPL numbers in the last 10 years, he scored more than 400 runs only once. So he is not the kind of player who thinks that I need to score 500 or 700 runs. If he thinks, he might. When he became the Indian captain, he said that he wanted to be the player who wants to cash in on the powerplay and take the chances, so he wanted to make all the sacrifices alone, but he is not considering the fact that at the end of the day when he is not performing, it is your legacy that is getting hurt. Ab uska jaane ka time aagaya, (It’s already time for him to retire), and before retiring, you would want to give fans something to remember you by, and not moments that force them to think, why are they not dropping him,” he said.

Rohit looked in good touch once again but was dismissed after playing a loose shot against Cummins.

“Take 10 balls extra, but at least play and give yourself a chance. He has been getting out to that pull shot many times against the back of the length deliveries. So he should decide that in one innings he will not play the pull shot at all. But who will explain it to him? There should be someone telling him to play normal cricket. When I was there, Sachin, Dravid or Ganguly used to tell me to play normal cricket,” he added.

Fatima Sana’s Pakistan qualify for Women’s ODI World Cup to be hosted in India; tournament set to be in hybrid model | Cricket News

Fatima Sana-led Pakistan kept up their unbeaten run at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifier and sealed their spot at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, to be hosted by India later this year. The hosts made it four wins out of four as they thrashed Thailand by 87 runs in Lahore on Thursday. Pakistan’s qualification now confirms that the tournament will be held in a hybrid model as they won’t be travelling to India for the tournament that is scheduled to start late September.

Hosting the tournament for the first time, Pakistan started off on a strong note by winning a thriller against Ireland who at one stage looked to be cruising to an upset win in the opener. They then followed it up with a 6-wicket win against Scotland and a 65-run victory against the West Indies.

With four wins out of four, Pakistan sealed their spot in the World Cup, while there is one more spot up for grabs at the Qualifiers in Lahore. As hosts India had earned automatic qualification, while Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka earned their tickets by finishing in the top six of the last cycle of ICC Women’s Championship 2022-’25. With 3 wins in 4 matches, Bangladesh currently have the upperhand but they face Pakistan next.

Earlier, The Indian Express had reported that the BCCI picked Thiruvananthapuram as one of the venues for the tournament, courtesy the hybrid model agreed upon between the Indian and Pakistan cricket boards before the recent Champions Trophy earlier this year. If Pakistan qualifies for the World Cup, their matches will be played in neighbouring countries, in either Sri Lanka or Dubai. None of the other shortlisted venues by BCcI in India have immigration or visa facilities available, apart from Thiruvananthapuram. Since Pakistan won’t be travelling to India for ICC events, the BCCI has planned for all teams contesting against them to fly from the southern coast of India.

It is understood that Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Mullanpur and Indore are the other shortlisted venues in India.

Hardik Pandya Faces Huge Injury Scare, Takes Wicket On Very Next Delivery vs SRH – Watch

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya suffered an injury scare but made a stunning comeback to take the wicket of Abhishek Sharma on the very next delivery during the IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday. During the 8th over of the SRH innings, Hardik looked in a spot of bother as he hobbled after delivering a ball. He clutched his ankle and after a brief check-up, the MI physio decided to strap up his left ankle. While he looked in a lot of pain, he bounced back and on the very next ball, Abhishek miscued a shot off his bowling and was caught by Raj Bawa at sweeper cover.

Sunrisers Hyderabad scored a competitive 162 for five against Mumbai Indians.

Sent in to bat, SRH rode on useful contributions from Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28 balls), Heinrich Klaasen (37), Travis Head (28), Nitish Kumar Reddy (19) and some lusty hitting in the fag end from Aniket Verma (18 off 8 balls) to go past 160-run mark. For MI, Will Jacks (2/14), Hardik Pandya (1/42), Jasprit Bumrah (1/21) and Trent Boult (1/29) were among the wickets.

Pakistan qualifies for Women’s World Cup in India

Pakistan beat Thailand in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier to officially book its place in the ODI World Cup to be hosted by India later this year.

Will Pakistan play its matches in India?

During the impasse around the Champions Trophy and India’s reluctance to travek to Pakistan, a compromise was arrived at for all parties to agree upon the hybrid hosting model of the event. India alone played its matches in Dubai while the rest of the tournament went on as scheduled in Lahore and Karachi.

ICC said then in a release: India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue.

Political tensions between the two countries have prevented bilateral cricket outside major tournaments since 2008, with India last visiting Pakistan 16 years ago. However, Pakistan did travel to India for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Hardik Pandya Denied A Wicket Despite Dismissing Travis Head Twice In 2 Balls. Reason Is…

Hardik Pandya was denied a wicket despite dismissing Travis Head twice in two consecutive deliveries during the IPL 2025 encounter between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday. During the 10th over of the SRH innings, Head miscued a shot off Hardik’s bowling and was caught in the deep. However, MI’s celebrations were short-lived as the siren started blaring and after a small discussion, the on-field umpire signaled no-ball. The next delivery was a free hit with Head on strike and he once again tried to go for the big shot but was caught by Mitchell Santner at long-on. Hardik’s frustration was quite apparent as he dismissed Head twice but on both occasions, it did not count.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl.

Both sides are coming into the match with wins in their respective matches and decided to go ahead with the same playing XIs as their previous matches.

Mumbai Indians decided to go with former captain Rohit Sharma starting among the impact substitutes.

Hardik Pandya said the decision was because of the possibility of the dew playing a role later in the match.

“Very excited, the way the last couple of days have gone,” he said, adding that they are backing all their batters. “Bumrah is fine, we don’t have to worry about him. If he wasn’t 100%, he wouldn’t be here.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins said it looks like a good wicket and wasn’t too worried about losing the toss. Same side for SRH too. “Sometimes it’s good to reset, sometimes it is good to keep going,” he said about the five-day gap between their games.

The match is being played on the same pitch on which the Mumbai Indians bundled out Kolkata Knight Riders for 116 and then chased the target with 43 balls to spare. This was Mumbai Indians’ only home win this season, and their fans will be hoping that the return to the same strip works again for them.

Both teams desperately want to win this match as they have both lost four matches each, and losing more matches will seriously hamper their chances of recovering and fighting for a playoff spot.
