The Tasmanian Tigers are awaiting their opponents for the decider of the Dean Jones Trophy
A scheduling clash with the women’s multi-format series between Australia and India has seen the One-Day Cup final moved to a new date after Tasmania secured the hosting rights by locking the top spot.
The decider of the men’s domestic 50-over tournament was originally scheduled to be held on 28 February but will now be played as a day-night fixture on March 11 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
The change in the date will allow Tasmania to host the fixture at the state’s marquee cricket ground, which is set to host two women’s ODIs on 27 February and March 1.
They had earlier hosted their home game against South Australia at the secondary Kingston Twin Ovals venue in November when the Bellerive Oval was being used for WBBL|11.
The Tigers secured the top spot on the One-Day Cup ladder by winning five of their first six games, with no other team winning more than three and only the final round of the home and away season remaining.
Tasmania’s opponents for the title clash, where the sides will play for the Dean Jones Trophy, will be decided after the remaining three league games. NSW lead that race, sitting second on the table, ahead of Queensland by a bonus point and with superior net run rate.
But they will have their task cut out to lock their place in the decider as they face Tasmania in their final round match.
However, should they come out on top, NSW will be armed with momentum and experience of the conditions as that game on 21 February is also scheduled as a day-night fixture at the Bellerive Oval.
Peter Roach, Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations, hailed the cooperation of all stakeholders for making the re-scheduling of the One-Day Cup final possible.
“We are delighted that, despite a scheduling clash, we have been able to work closely with our partners to ensure Tasmania will host the Final at Ninja Stadium in Hobart following their dominant season and first-place finish on the table,” he said in a CA statement.
The final will commence at 2.05pm AEDT and will be broadcast live on Foxtel and Kayo Sports and streamed live on cricket.com.au.
