India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the fourth day of the third Test against England at Lord’s.
The incident occurred after Siraj dismissed England batter Ben Duckett and celebrated in an aggressive manner. He walked up close to Duckett during his follow-through and made physical contact as the batter was heading back to the pavilion.
Siraj was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The article relates to using language, actions or gestures which could provoke an aggressive response from a dismissed batter during an international match.
Along with the fine, Siraj has also received one demerit point. This is his second offence in a 24-month period, bringing his total to two demerit points. If a player collects four or more demerit points within two years, it can lead to suspension from international matches.
The incident added to the intensity of the match, which has been full of drama and close contests. As the final day approaches, India need 135 more runs to win but are in trouble at 58/4, facing tough conditions on a worn Lord’s pitch and a strong English bowling attack.
The five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series is currently level at 1-1. England won the first Test by five wickets, while India bounced back in the second with a massive 336-run victory.
