Mohammad Rizwan’s T20I future in doubt as selectors consider new wicketkeeper

Former T20I captain Mohammad Rizwan might be dropped again from Pakistan’s T20 squad, as selectors are planning changes ahead of the upcoming series against Bangladesh and the West Indies, sources said.

Rizwan’s future became uncertain after Mohammad Haris performed well in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh, which Pakistan won 3-0.

According to sources, the selectors have agreed to give wicketkeeper-batter Rohail Nazir a chance in the upcoming matches. With changes expected in the team, there are also talks that senior players like Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam may not play international cricket for the next six months.

Their return is only expected during Pakistan’s World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 opening series against South Africa in November. A comeback in T20Is is unlikely for now.

There is also uncertainty about the roles of Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sikandar Bakht, who were seen at selection meetings recently. However, the PCB has not made any official announcement, and the board’s website still shows Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, and Hassan Cheema as part of the committee.

Pakistan is likely to play a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in July, followed by a white-ball series against the West Indies in the USA and the Caribbean.
