Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been ruled out of the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, dealing an early setback to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots just a day before the tournament begins on Thursday.

In his place, 24-year-old fast bowler Abbas Afridi has been officially confirmed as Nawaz’s replacement. This marks Afridi’s maiden appearance in the CPL. While reports of his inclusion had been circulating, the Patriots made it official with Wednesday’s announcement.

Afridi will join fellow Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah in the Patriots squad. Naseem is set for his first CPL outing since 2021, when he played seven matches and took six wickets at an economy rate of 7.68.

Afridi brings strong credentials from both Pakistan’s domestic and international cricket. He featured in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) last year for Fortune Barishal, where he took two wickets in three matches and added 18 runs with the bat.

His most notable performances have come in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he has taken 60 wickets in 40 matches since his debut in 2021. Afridi started his PSL career with Karachi Kings, spent three seasons with Multan Sultans, and returned to Karachi Kings in 2025.

A total of seven Pakistani players will be taking part in CPL 2025. Former left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir will represent Trinbago Knight Riders, his fourth CPL team since 2021. Amir has played 39 CPL matches, claiming 51 wickets at an average of 18.09.

Also at Trinbago will be Usman Tariq, who is set for his first CPL season after standout PSL performances in 2024 and 2025.

All-rounder Imad Wasim returns to Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, while Guyana Amazon Warriors have signed spin all-rounder Hassan Khan, who is reportedly making a move towards USA cricket.

Pakistani players in CPL 2025:

Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots)
Mohammad Amir, Usman Tariq (Trinbago Knight Riders)
Imad Wasim (Antigua and Barbuda Falcons)
Iftikhar Ahmed, Hassan Khan (Guyana Amazon Warriors)
