The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), on Saturday, felicitated Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), for his exemplary contribution towards the growth and global reach of cricket. The felicitation, held at a gala dinner in Mumbai, comes on the eve of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting scheduled on September 28.

Over the past decade, Shah has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of cricket. From strengthening domestic structures, enriching tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL), to introducing reforms that have elevated women’s cricket to new heights, his leadership has been marked by a cricket-for-all vision. Notably, under his stewardship, prize money for women’s cricket tournaments has been exponentially increased, ensuring parity and due recognition for women athletes.

The upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, set to begin on September 30, stands as a testament to these efforts. The tournament promises to be the biggest edition yet, featuring expanded global participation, record-breaking broadcast reach, and the highest-ever prize pool in the history of women’s cricket.

Speaking on the occasion, Ajinkya Naik, president, MCA, said, “Mr. Jay Shah’s commitment to empowering cricket at every level has been extraordinary. His reforms, especially for women’s cricket, have created opportunities and inspired millions worldwide. As we step into the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, it is only fitting that we celebrate his leadership and vision that continue to transform the game.”
