Lancashire Cricket has confirmed the appointment of four-time ICC World Cup-winning coach Matthew Mott as a specialist T20 coaching consultant for the men’s team on a two-year contract.
The 52-year-old Australian will integrate into the club’s existing coaching structure under Head Coach Steven Croft, delivering elite-level T20 expertise and collaborating with staff to enhance player performance throughout the Vitality Blast campaigns over the next two seasons.
Mott arrives with extensive international credentials and a proven record of success at the highest level. He most recently served as Head Coach of England Men’s white-ball sides, leading the Three Lions to ICC Men’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2022.
Before his tenure with England, Mott enjoyed a hugely successful spell as Head Coach of Australia Women during one of the most dominant eras in international cricket. Under his leadership, Australia captured multiple ICC titles, including T20 World Cups and a 50-over World Cup crown.
His experience also spans domestic and franchise cricket. Mott has previously worked with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League and currently holds coaching roles with Sydney Sixers Women (Head Coach) and Sydney Sixers Men (Assistant Coach) in the Big Bash League.
Speaking about his appointment, Matthew Mott said: “I’m really excited to be joining Lancashire as a T20 coaching consultant for the Vitality Blast over the next two years. The Club has a strong history, a talented group of players and huge ambitions in white-ball cricket.
“I’m looking forward to working with the squad and coaching team to help build on that potential and add value wherever I can.
“The Blast is an incredibly competitive tournament, and I’m eager to get started and contribute to what we hope will be a successful campaign at Emirates Old Trafford.”
Mark Chilton, Lancashire’s Director of Cricket Performance, added: “Matthew’s track record speaks for itself. He has achieved sustained success at international level, winning global tournaments and leading high-performing teams in pressure environments. His experience and tactical insights will be hugely beneficial to our Blast campaigns over the next two seasons.
“We are constantly looking at ways to strengthen while further supporting Steven and his coaches – and bringing someone of Matthew’s calibre into the environment can only be a positive.
“For Matthew, it’s a nice fit to work at Emirates Old Trafford ahead of his role with Manchester Super Giants following the conclusion of the Blast.”
