Key changes are expected in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming tri-nation series and the Asia Cup 2025, with opener Fakhar Zaman and fast bowler Salman Mirza expected to be included, while all-rounder Shadab Khan’s name is reportedly not under consideration.

Sources reveal that the announcement of the probable squad is expected next week, with a proposal to hold the training camp in Lahore. However, the final decision will be made after the team’s return from the West Indies, following consultations between the selectors, head coach, and captain Salman Ali Agha.

Fakhar Zaman, currently recovering from a hamstring injury, will report to the National Cricket Academy in the coming days for assessment by the PCB medical panel.

Reports suggest his injury is not serious, and the opener is confident that routine rehabilitation will restore his fitness. His selection will depend on medical clearance.

To strengthen the bowling attack, selectors are keen on recalling Salman Mirza, whose name was withdrawn from the Pakistan Shaheens squad traveling to Darwin, Australia. Mirza’s strong performances in the Pakistan Super League and the series against Bangladesh have boosted his chances of selection.

A 16-member squad is expected for both the tri-nation T20I series and the Asia Cup. The tri-series, featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UAE, will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from August 29 to September 7. Pakistan will begin their campaign against Afghanistan on August 29 at 7:00 PM local time.

Tri Series schedule (All matches at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, 7:00 PM local time):

29 August – Afghanistan vs Pakistan
30 August – UAE vs Pakistan
1 September – UAE vs Afghanistan
2 September – Pakistan vs Afghanistan
4 September – Pakistan vs UAE
5 September – Afghanistan vs UAE
7 September – Final

Each team will face the others twice, with the top two teams advancing to the final.
