Jake Lintott signs new deal with Bears

Bears spinner Jake Lintott has signed a new contract extension at Edgbaston – and said he wants to repay the Club’s faith in him with more wickets and a Vitality Blast trophy.

Lintott has agreed a one-year extension to his current deal which will keep him at the Club until at least the end of the 2026 season.

The leftie wrist-spinner has been one of Bears’ leading T20 wicket takers in recent seasons.

He’s struck 18 times in the last campaign – only Danny Briggs (29) had more success with the ball – and was Bears’ top Blast wicket taker with 22 in 2022.

“I love this Club,” said the 32-year-old. “They’ve shown me great support and the opportunity to be a professional cricketer. That was my dream as a kid…and before Warwickshire showed faith in me I thought that dream was gone. It’s nice to repay them with seven years of service and hopefully there will be a few more to come.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new deal. This club holds a special place in my heart. It’ll be seven years here at the end of this contract. I’ve enjoyed every minute and the opportunity to extend that was a no brainer really.

“I’d love to win a trophy with this Club. Our performances in the last few years warrant it, we just need to get over the line in those knock-out games. The talent around this place and the young talent coming through, the Club is in a really good position. It’s an exciting squad to be a part of.”

Lintott signed his first professional deal with the Club in 2021 following his successful trial in 2020 when he took 10 wickets.

He’s gone on to take another 66 T20 scalps and is focused on taking many more in what he admits could be a pivotal campaign.

“It’s a big year for me, no secret about that,” he added. “I want to get back to playing at the highest level in competitions around the world. To do that I have to put in good performances for the Bears and take lots of wickets. That’s what I’m in the team for.

“Overall I’m very pleased with how I’ve performed, apart from a tricky year in 2023.

“Left arm wrist spinners are rare so I think I still offer sides something out of the ordinary. I’ve played against all the teams a lot though now, batters know me more and will come up with plans against me.

“So the challenge is to keep evolving and finding ways to be as effective as I can be, to shut down those options that batters potentially go to now.

“I do a lot of analysing my game, I’m big on that side. I’ve been doing a lot of work on my game, tinkering with a few things, and it’s brilliant having Simon Kerrigan (Spin Bowling Coach) come in and tapping into his brain and experience.

“I feel I’m in a good place and want to implement those skills this season and see how far it can take me and the side.”

Bears First Team Coach Ian Westwood, added: “Jake is an experienced cricketer with a good cricket brain.

“He gives our attack a real point of difference with his left arm wrist spin and we’re delighted to have him for another year.”
