A senior official in Italy’s cricket federation has been investigated and suspended over a sexual assault allegation.

Federazione Cricket Italiana (FCRI) confirmed to Sky Sports News that the governing body’s president ordered the suspension of an unnamed individual in 2025 and launched an investigation into the allegations.

It was alleged the individual inappropriately touched a member of Italy’s women’s national team.

The allegations were reported to police last year.

FCRI said in a statement to Sky Sports News: “The Italian Cricket Federation reiterates that its conduct is guided by principles of fairness, transparency and the protection of its registered members, as well as by the ethical and civic standards that underpin the sporting system.

“The federation therefore defers to the competent judicial authorities for any determinations arising from the matter.”

Sky Sports News has contacted the ICC for comment.

Italy recently made their debut at the Men’s T20 World Cup, earning a 10-wicket win over Nepal and also testing England before losing to Harry Brook’s side by 24 runs.

The Azzurri were also beaten by West Indies and Scotland as they exited in the first round.
