ICC may suspend USA Cricket over governance issues: reports

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly considering suspending USA Cricket (USAC) due to ongoing governance and leadership issues, according to international media reports on Monday.

The development comes as the 12-month governance notice period, issued to USAC in July 2024, nears its end. The notice was originally issued after the ICC raised serious concerns about USAC’s internal structure, including a lack of transparency, poor operational management, and governance failures.

To help restore order, the ICC had formed a normalisation committee tasked with bringing USAC back to a stable and compliant state. However, sources within the ICC say that little progress has been made since then.

The committee’s efforts have reportedly been slowed by continued resistance from some USAC board members and ineffective leadership, making reforms difficult to implement.

One unnamed ICC official, quoted in media reports, described the situation as unsustainable.

“We’ve provided ample time and support. The lack of progress is no longer acceptable,” the official reportedly said.

Earlier in June, an ICC delegation visited Los Angeles to hold meetings with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and members of the normalisation committee. The visit was viewed as an urgent assessment of whether any meaningful changes had been achieved.

During the discussions, the ICC is said to have stressed that governance reforms are essential, especially with cricket set to return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

While no final decision has yet been made, reports indicate that ICC officials have warned USAC that failure to introduce key leadership reforms before the ICC Annual Conference in July could lead to suspension.
