ICC fines Suryakumar Yadav, Haris Rauf for code of conduct breach

The International Cricket Council has fined India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan’s fast bowler Haris Rauf 30 per cent of their match fees for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup. Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan, however, was let off with a warning, according to ESPNCricinfo.

The sanctions were imposed by ICC match referee Richie Richardson following incidents during the high-voltage Pakistan-India encounters earlier this month.

Suryakumar was fined after being found guilty of making comments alluding to military conflict following the group-stage clash on September 14. The penalty followed a formal complaint from the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Rauf was penalised for a gesture during the Super Four match on September 21. Responding to heckling from Indian fans, he signaled “6-0” with his hands and mimicked the downing of aircraft. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had lodged a complaint against the pacer.

Farhan, meanwhile, escaped a fine after celebrating his half-century by mimicking a gunshot. He was officially warned by Richardson following a complaint from the BCCI. All three players had pleaded not guilty, leading to hearings.

The Pakistan-India rivalry has been tense throughout the Asia Cup, with India refusing to shake hands at the toss and after their seven-wicket win in the September 14 group game. The Super Four clash also saw confrontations between Pakistan’s bowlers and India’s openers.

The two teams are set to meet for the third time in the tournament during the Asia Cup final in Dubai on Sunday.
