Glenn Maxwell delivered a sensational performance on Tuesday, smashing an unbeaten 106 off just 49 balls to help Washington Freedom crush Los Angeles Knight Riders by 113 runs in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025.

The match, held in Oakland, saw Maxwell walk in with Freedom struggling at 68 for four. But the explosive all-rounder turned the tide with a breathtaking innings that included 13 sixes and two fours. His effort guided Washington Freedom to a total of 208 for five in 20 overs — with 124 of those runs coming in the final 10 overs.

Maxwell’s century was the first ever scored by a number six batter in MLC history. It was also his eighth T20 hundred, putting him level with Rohit Sharma, Aaron Finch, Michael Klinger, David Warner, and Jos Buttler for the joint fourth-most centuries in T20 cricket.

He also matched Nicholas Pooran’s record of hitting the second-most sixes (13) in an MLC innings. Only Finn Allen has hit more, with 19 sixes in the season opener.

Maxwell received support from Mark Chapman, who scored 17 off 21, and Obus Pienaar, who finished unbeaten on 14 off 15.

In response, the Knight Riders fell apart early. Their top three batters — Alex Hales, Sunil Narine, and Unmukt Chand — were all dismissed for zero, marking just the fourth time in franchise T20 history that the top three were out without scoring.

Freedom’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings. Mitchell Owen, who earlier hit 32 off 11, claimed three wickets, while Jack Edwards also picked up three, including key scalps like Chand, Rovman Powell, and skipper Jason Holder.

Saurabh Netravalkar cleaned up the tail with two wickets for just six runs in 3.3 overs, as Los Angeles Knight Riders were bowled out for 95 in the 17th over.

This win was Washington Freedom’s second in three games, lifting them to third place on the MLC 2025 points table.
