Essex Cricket are delighted to announce that Simon Fernandes has signed his first professional contract with the Club.
The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has earned a two-year senior deal after an impressive breakthrough season with the Essex Men’s first team, progressing from his previous rookie contract.
On signing his new deal, Fernandes said: “I am very pleased to be signing a full pro contract with Essex.
“I have loved my time with the Club and have been pleased with my contributions with the first team and Second XI when my opportunities came.
“I cannot wait to keep working hard for Essex and repay the faith that the Club has shown me.”
Fernandes played a key role in Essex’s 2025 Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign, while also featuring as a substitute wicketkeeper in several County Championship fixtures.

A right-handed middle-order batter, he scored 138 runs in seven One Day Cup innings at an average of 34.50, with a top score of 46* against Nottinghamshire in the opening round. Behind the stumps, Fernandes claimed ten catches and completed three stumpings across the eight group stage matches.
Hailing from Colchester, Fernandes also enjoyed a standout season at club level, helping Colchester & East Essex clinch the Essex Premier League title on the final day of the campaign.

“Since coming through our Second XI, he has put in some great performances throughout the One Day Cup competition, where he has become a key part of the side.
“Additionally, Simon’s willingness to step up as a sub-keeper when called upon in the County Championship speaks volumes about his professionalism.
“We are delighted to see him earn his first professional contract with Essex and we are excited to see how he continues to develop.”
