Duleep Trophy, 2025 squads: Dhruv Jurel to lead Central Zone

Jurel to captain Central Zone

Dhruv Jurel has been named the captain of the Central Zone for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, 2025. The tournament is set to take place in Bengaluru in the BCCI’s new Centre of Excellence from August 28.

Jurel leads a strong Central Zone squad which also has Rajat Patidar as Jurel’s deputy if he is declared fit.

Squad: Dhruv Jurel (c, wk), Rajat Patidar (vc – subject to fitness clearance), Aryan Juyal, Danesh Malewar, Sanchit Desai, Kuldeep Yadav, Aditya Thakre, Deepak Chahar, Saransh Jain, Ayush Pande,y Shubham Sharma, Yash Rathod, Harsh Dubey, Manav Suthar, Khaleel Ahmed

Standbys: Madhav Kaushik Yash Thakur Yuvraj Chaudhary Mahipal Lomror Kuldeep Sen Upendra Yadav

Gill to lead North Zone

Additionally, India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has been picked as the captain of the North Zone. Gill’s squad too contains potential India picks with the Asia Cup set to take place around the same time as the Duleep Trophy. However, the selection committee has made provisions for that eventuality.

“It was discussed and decided in the meeting that, in the event Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, or any of them are selected for the Indian team during the upcoming series coinciding with the Duleep Trophy tournament, the following replacements will be made: Shubham Rohilla (Services) will replace Shubman Gill, Gurnoor Brar will replace Arshdeep Singh [and] Anuj Thukral will replace Harshit Rana.”

Standbys: Shubham Arora (Himachal Pradesh), Jaskaranvir Singh Paul (Punjab), Ravi Chauhan (Services), Abid Mushtaq (J&K), Nishunk Birla (Chandigarh), Umar Nazir (J&K), Divesh Sharma (Himachal Pradesh)

Shardul Thakur named West Zone captain

The West Zone Selection Committee has named Shardul Thakur as captain of a 15-member West Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy matches. The team announcement, made following a selection meeting held at MCA’s Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy in BKC on Friday (August 1), features seven Mumbai players, four from Gujarat, and two each from Maharashtra and Saurashtra.

Apart from Thakur, the big names from Mumbai include Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan, Maharashtra’s Ruturaj Gaikwad is also part of the team. Meanwhile, former India regulars Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara haven’t been named in the squad.

The committee, chaired by Sanjay Patil of Mumbai Cricket Association, has also named a comprehensive list of seven standby players: Mahesh Pithiya, Shivalik Sharma, Mukesh Chaudhary, Siddharth Desai, Chintan Gaja, Musheer Khan and Urvil Patel.

The tournament begins on August 28 with the two quarterfinals. West Zone, who have a direct entry in the semifinal, begin their campaign on September 4. The final will be played from September 11. All matches will be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence ground in Bengaluru.

Shami, Easwaran, Suraj, Akash Deep, Mukesh in East Zone squad

Bengal’s Mohammed Shami, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal has been named in the East Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2025.

Ishan Kishan has been named captain, and Easwaran the vice captain. A total of 5 players from Bengal have found a place in the East Zone squad.

Sudip Kumar Gharami has been named in the standby list.
