England’s ODI issues after another series defeat: Fifth bowler, too much cricket and not enough 50-over action | Cricket News
England’s one-day international cricket has been a grim watch for quite some time – so thank heavens for Sunday in Southampton. They scored 414-5 and then rolled South Africa for 72. The 342-run victory was not just England’s biggest by runs in men’s ODIs but the biggest by runs in men’s ODIs. The problem is that this win came after the series had been lost with a hammering at Leeds and a narrow defeat in Lord’s giving the Proteas an unassailable 2-0 lead. Asia Cup is India’s first multi-nation tournament since winning the T20 World Cup, and their last before the next one at home. ©Getty There are words that linger longer than moments. For India in T20Is, two of them were “maarte jao.” Rinku Singh heard them when he was going in to bat at 41/3 in the Delhi T20I against Bangladesh. It was not the sort of message that Indian batters of a previous generation grew up hearing. India went on to finish with 221 that night, then piled on 297 next. They won both those games. That Rinku was told…
