Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been reprimanded for using inappropriate language during the first One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa in Cairns on August 19.

According to ESPNcricinfo, The incident happened in the 37th over of South Africa’s innings when Zampa was heard on the stump microphone using an audible obscenity after a misfield and an overthrow.

This marked Zampa’s first offence within a 24-month period. He accepted the charge under Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the use of obscene, offensive or insulting language during an international match.

As a result, he received one demerit point and a formal reprimand for a Level 1 breach. Level 1 offences carry a minimum penalty of a reprimand and can include a fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

The 33-year-old admitted his mistake, meaning no formal hearing was required.

In the match, Australia lost to South Africa by 98 runs, with Zampa finishing with figures of 1 for 58 in his 10 overs. The remaining two ODIs of the series will be played in Mackay on Friday and Sunday.

Australia had earlier won the three-match T20I series 2-1.
