The contentious Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) concluded in Dhaka on Thursday (July 24) afternoon with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which joined the meeting virtually left to make the much-awaited announcement on the Asia Cup.

The AGM conducted business as usual but as reported by Cricbuzz yesterday (July 23), the elections, mainly for the post of vice-president, did not take place. The contentious finance bill/accounts were passed.

Sources, who have attended the meeting, have revealed to this website that there was an impression that the Asia Cup will go ahead and the BCCI will make the announcement. “We cannot say it will happen for sure but there was no impression that it wouldn’t happen. The BCCI is sorting out issues with commercial partners and it should make the announcement in a few days,” a source, well versed with the development, revealed.

Later Mohsin Naqvi, the president of the ACC, said all 25 members attended the AGM (some of course virtually). “The meeting was attended by all 25 members. BCCI will inform us about the Asia Cup in a few days,” he told the waiting media.

Eight teams are likely to participate in the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup, and the tournament could be held from September 10 to September 28 but there is a chance that it could start a few days earlier.

Despite BCCI being the official hosts of the tournament, the tournament is slated to be played in the UAE with Dubai and Abu Dhabi to host the games. This comes after the ACC had decided to host the Asia Cup in a neutral country when it was either India or Pakistan’s turn to be official hosts.
