LIVE SCORES – Somerset vs Hampshire, County Championship Division One

Match Prediction – Somerset v Hampshire

Somerset: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Somerset have hit top gear at the business end of the County Championship season, going unbeaten in their last five outings and securing a crucial win over Yorkshire last time out. With momentum on their side, a late title push remains a possibility — but they’ll need to keep winning, starting with this key clash against Hampshire.

Their batting unit is firing at the right time, with Tom Abell’s classy 130 against Yorkshire anchoring a dominant display. Abell, currently the eighth-highest run-scorer in Division One, is averaging close to 50 and looks to be peaking just when his side needs him most. He was well supported by Tom Kohler-Cadmore, James Rew and Lewis Goldsworthy, who all chipped in with half-centuries.

Jack Leach continues to be Somerset’s standout bowler, claiming 41 wickets across 12 matches. The England spinner is the top-ranked spinner in the competition and could be a real handful again on what’s expected to be a spin-friendly Taunton surface.

Hampshire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

It’s been a disappointing campaign for Hampshire, who entered the season with high hopes but now find themselves dangerously close to the relegation zone. With no wins in their last five and only two victories from 12 matches, they’re under pressure — especially with back-to-back games against Somerset and defending champions Surrey to close the season.

They were unfortunate to be denied a likely win against Sussex due to the weather, but captain Ben Brown stood out on a tricky pitch at Hove with a gritty fifty. Brown has been a consistent performer with the bat, averaging almost 50 for the season and notching up two centuries. He’ll be key if Hampshire are to arrest their slide.

With the ball, veteran seamer Kyle Abbott remains a major threat. His ability to swing the ball both ways has brought him 46 wickets at a superb average of 20.84 — the second-best haul in the division. Left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin has also provided support, taking four wickets in Sussex’s first innings, but the pressure is mounting on the attack to deliver again.

Match Prediction

Given the contrasting form of both sides and Somerset’s strength at home, it’s hard to look past a home victory. Expect the hosts to maintain their unbeaten run and pile more pressure on a struggling Hampshire outfit.

Prediction: Somerset to win

LIVE SCORES – Sussex vs Yorkshire, County Championship Division One

Match Prediction – Sussex v Yorkshire

Sussex: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Sussex arrive at this must-win clash still searching for form, having gone three matches without a victory. A rain-assisted draw against Hampshire in their last outing spared them a third consecutive defeat, but they’ll need to show far more quality if they’re to stay in Division One beyond this season.

Opener Tom Haines remains a key figure at the top of the order. His composed 40 in tricky conditions at Hove was crucial in steering Sussex towards a draw. With two centuries and four fifties to his name this campaign, Haines has quietly put together a strong season, averaging around 40. If he settles in, Yorkshire’s bowlers could be in for a long day.

With the ball, Jaydev Unadkat continues to deliver with his experience and skill. The left-arm seamer took six wickets against Hampshire and looks well-suited to Hove’s seamer-friendly surfaces. Spin duo Jack Carson and Bradley Coles also found some success in that match, hinting that a balanced attack could prove key in this relegation scrap.

Yorkshire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Yorkshire’s late-season resurgence has seen them collect two vital wins from their last five games, helping them edge away from the immediate drop zone. However, they were clinging on when the rain arrived against Somerset, having slumped to 134/9 in reply to a massive 441/6 declared — a reminder that there’s still work to do.

Adam Lyth remains the linchpin of the batting order. He dug in for 30 against a strong Somerset attack and has been Yorkshire’s standout batter all season, passing 1,000 runs across his 21 innings. With Jonny Bairstow back in the XI and likely to draw plenty of attention, Yorkshire will need their big names to stand up in this crunch encounter.

On the bowling front, George Hill has quietly become one of the most effective bowlers in Division One. His economy and consistency — averaging just 18.02 for his 41 wickets — make him a reliable weapon, while Jack White offers additional threat, particularly against a Sussex side known to falter under scoreboard pressure.

Match Prediction

Both teams are nervously eyeing the weather forecast, which currently predicts interruptions on at least two of the four days in Hove. With both Sussex and Yorkshire wary of defeat and their top-flight status hanging in the balance, this one may see a more cautious tone set from the outset.

Prediction: Match to end in a draw

LIVE SCORES – Warwickshire vs Essex, County Championship Division One

Match Prediction – Warwickshire v Essex

Warwickshire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Warwickshire have pieced together a solid run of form, going six matches unbeaten and climbing to fourth in the County Championship table. Wins have proved elusive — just three in 12 games — but the Bears’ consistency has kept them in the upper reaches of Division One. A title challenge looks a stretch, yet they remain competitive and keen to finish strongly.

With the bat, Ed Barnard has been a linchpin in the middle order. His unbeaten 108 from 123 balls in the recent clash with Essex underlined both his fluency and reliability, making him a key figure once again. Skipper Alex Davies provides stability at the top of the order and will look to lead from the front as Warwickshire target a late-season statement win.

On the bowling front, Beau Webster was the standout in that earlier meeting with Essex, maintaining tight control and taking two wickets at an economy of just 2.50. However, the season’s leading threat remains fast bowler Ethan Bamber, who has 38 wickets to his name across 12 matches. His ability to strike with the new ball could shape Warwickshire’s fortunes at Edgbaston.

Essex: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Essex’s campaign has been characterised by stubbornness rather than cutting edge. They have won just twice all season — against bottom-placed Worcestershire and newly promoted Sussex — but seven draws highlight their ability to hold firm. With tough fixtures against Warwickshire and Somerset to finish, the pressure is on to avoid sliding towards the lower reaches of the table.

Captain Tom Westley was outstanding in the last meeting between these sides, compiling a commanding 148 that set the tone for Essex’s innings. His form at number three will again be vital. Promising youngster Charlie Allison has also been a bright spark, scoring three centuries in 10 matches, and he will be eager to extend that form into the closing rounds.

With the ball, Jamie Porter has been Essex’s standout, sitting third among the division’s leading wicket-takers and averaging just 22. He remains their most potent weapon. The experienced Simon Harmer adds variety, with 36 wickets across 11 games, and his ability to extract turn could be a key factor at Edgbaston.

Prediction

Both Warwickshire and Essex have shown themselves difficult to beat, sharing 15 draws from 24 matches between them this season. With batting depth on both sides and bowling attacks that often struggle to force outright results, another high-scoring stalemate looks the most likely outcome.

Prediction: Match to end in a draw

LIVE SCORES – Durham vs Worcestershire, County Championship Division One

Match Prediction – Durham v Worcestershire

Durham: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Durham’s return to Division One has been far from smooth, with only two wins to show from 12 matches and five defeats leaving them precariously placed near the bottom of the table. Two of those losses have come in their last three outings, and a poor finish could yet see them dragged into the relegation battle. With survival on the line, victory over basement side Worcestershire feels essential.

Captain Alex Lees and youngster Ben McKinney have been reliable figures at the top of the order. Lees narrowly missed out on another century last week against Essex, dismissed for 94 by Simon Harmer, while McKinney struck a superb hundred to give Durham a strong start. Both have been consistent contributors throughout the campaign and will be key to setting the tone once again.

With the ball, Matthew Potts showed flashes of his best against Essex, taking 3 for 95, though his season average of 38.73 is higher than he would like. Ben Raine has carried the greater threat, leading Durham’s wicket charts with 37 scalps in 11 matches. Between Raine’s relentless accuracy and Potts’ strike power, Durham will be looking to break Worcestershire’s resistance and secure the points they desperately need.

Worcestershire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Worcestershire’s campaign has been even more bruising, with just one win and seven defeats from their 12 fixtures leaving them rooted to the foot of the Division One table. Three losses in their last five games have compounded their misery, and the prospect of relegation looms large unless they can produce something special in the final rounds.

Jake Libby has been the standout performer, sitting fourth in the overall run-scoring charts with 974 runs, including four centuries. His remarkable unbeaten 228 remains a highlight in an otherwise bleak season, and Worcestershire will again rely heavily on him to anchor the innings. Ethan Brookes has chipped in with two fifties and a century, but greater consistency across the order is needed if the Pears are to compete.

With the ball, Tom Taylor has been outstanding, topping the Division One wicket-taking charts. His six wickets against Nottinghamshire in the last round emphasised his importance as the leader of the attack. Ben Allison has been a strong support act, collecting 36 wickets at an average of 27 to provide an extra dimension. Together, they form a capable unit, but too often this season their efforts have not been backed by the bat.

Prediction

Both sides have endured difficult campaigns, but Durham’s stronger batting core and home advantage give them the edge in this relegation scrap. Worcestershire will look to Libby and Taylor for inspiration, but with over half their matches ending in defeat, it is hard to see them halting Durham’s push for survival.

Prediction: Durham to win

LIVE SCORES – Surrey vs Nottinghamshire, County Championship Division One

Match Prediction – Surrey v Nottinghamshire

Surrey: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Surrey remain favourites to seal an unprecedented fourth successive County Championship crown, but their position at the summit is fragile — they lead by just a single point with two rounds left to play. While they have avoided defeat, winning two of their last five fixtures, a total of eight draws has prevented the Londoners from pulling away. Nottinghamshire are their closest challengers and will be determined to push them all the way in this crucial clash.

Dominic Sibley has been the standout performer with the bat, topping the Division One run-scoring charts. Averaging an extraordinary 69.64, he has compiled four hundreds and six fifties in just 12 matches. Fresh from another century in the previous outing, he is well placed to deliver once more. England international Ollie Pope also arrives in good touch, having struck back-to-back half-centuries against Warwickshire, and will be aiming to build on that momentum at the Oval.

Dan Worrall has been a constant threat with the ball whenever selected, taking 28 wickets at 26.42 in only eight matches. His ability to unsettle opposition line-ups could prove vital here. Gus Atkinson has endured a less productive campaign than he might have hoped, yet with a Test bowling average of just 22.01, his capacity to cause damage remains unquestionable.

Nottinghamshire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Nottinghamshire, meanwhile, have produced some of the division’s most compelling cricket this season. With five wins from 12 matches — more than any other side — they have kept the title race alive. A sequence of four consecutive draws slowed their charge, but last week’s narrow victory over Worcestershire restored belief. Defeating Surrey away from home would blow the championship race wide open heading into the final round.

Captain Haseeb Hameed has led from the front with the bat, amassing 1,108 runs at 69.25, the second-highest tally in the competition. He has also struck more fours than any other player, underlining his consistency and intent. Ben Slater has provided strong support, compiling eight fifties and a century to maintain a steady flow of runs throughout the season.

With the ball, Mohammad Abbas has been relentless, collecting 26 wickets in eight matches to reinforce his quality as a proven Test-level performer. Josh Tongue, however, is the bowler in form. His seven wickets against Worcestershire highlighted his ability to turn matches, while his recent T20 haul of eight wickets in just four outings further demonstrates his rhythm.

This encounter looks finely balanced, but with Nottinghamshire recently made to work hard against struggling Worcestershire and now facing Surrey at the Oval, the champions could just have the edge.

Match prediction: Surrey to win

LIVE SCORES – Leicestershire vs Kent, County Championship Division Two

Match Prediction – PMO: Leicestershire v Kent

Leicestershire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Leicestershire have sealed their long-awaited return to Division One, securing promotion for the first time in over two decades with a draw against Gloucestershire. The Foxes have been dominant in Division Two, winning six matches and setting the standard for much of the campaign. With the title still in sight, they’ll be eager to finish in style.

Rehan Ahmed has been central to their success, producing five centuries from just 16 innings at an average above 50 — an exceptional conversion rate for a player of his age. He has been ably supported by Lewis Hill, who comes into this fixture on the back of consecutive scores in the eighties and will be eyeing another big contribution against struggling Kent.

With the ball, Ian Holland has led the way, collecting 35 wickets at a superb average of 19.37, including two four-wicket hauls and a five-for. Ahmed has also been a threat with his leg spin, taking 23 wickets across 10 matches with best figures of 7 for 93. Between them, Leicestershire have the balance to dismantle any opposition.

Kent: Form Guide and Players to Watch

At the other end of the table, Kent’s red-ball woes have been stark. Rooted to the bottom, they have managed just two wins all season while suffering five defeats, and they head into this clash winless in their last five matches. Survival hopes are already over, and pride is now their main motivator.

Despite the team’s struggles, Ben Compton has been a shining light. He is the division’s leading run-scorer, averaging 60 with over 1,200 runs and five centuries to his name. His reliability has been unmatched, and he remains Kent’s biggest asset at the crease. Tawanda Sean Muyeye has offered flashes of promise, narrowly missing out on a half-century last time out when dismissed for 48, and will be eager to make it count here.

With the ball, Matthew Parkinson has been Kent’s most dangerous weapon, taking 32 wickets in just eight matches, though his economy rate has been on the higher side at 4.12. Seamer Matt Quinn also comes in with confidence after a six-wicket haul against Lancashire, and he will look to build on that form.

Prediction

While Leicestershire may already be celebrating promotion, the lure of a Division Two title will keep them sharp. Against a Kent side short of wins and confidence, the Foxes look excellently placed to close out their campaign with another victory.

Prediction: Leicestershire to win

Batting Stats FIRSTCLASS

LIVE SCORES – Lancashire vs Middlesex, County Championship Division Two

Match Prediction – PMO: Lancashire v Middlesex

Lancashire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Lancashire have shown flashes of promise in recent weeks, with both of their two wins in Division Two arriving across their last five matches. However, inconsistency remains an issue, as a defeat to Glamorgan and a draw against bottom side Kent have checked their progress. The Red Rose will be eager to finish the campaign strongly on home turf.

Marcus Harris has been the standout with the bat, averaging an impressive 60.41 with three centuries and seven fifties from just 10 matches. He has been ably supported by Luke Wells, whose 915 runs this season leave him within touching distance of the 1,000-run milestone. Wells will be eager to make a defining contribution in these final rounds.

With the ball, George Balderson has been Lancashire’s spearhead, taking 33 wickets with his probing seam attack. He will be backed by spinner Tom Hartley, who showed signs of rediscovering his rhythm with three wickets against Kent last week. Together, they offer a balanced attack well-suited to home conditions.

Middlesex: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Middlesex have produced an evenly balanced season, with four wins, four draws and four defeats. Their recent form is encouraging, however, with two wins and two draws across their last four games giving them momentum heading into this clash.

Captain Leus du Plooy has led from the front with the bat, striking a fine century in the recent match against Derbyshire — his second of the campaign. Ben Geddes, though enduring a lean run of late, has been an important contributor with a century and four fifties to his name and could be due another telling innings.

Their bowling attack has been a key strength. Ryan Higgins is the second-highest wicket-taker in Division Two, claiming 39 wickets at an average just shy of 24, while Toby Roland-Jones isn’t far behind. The veteran seamer sits third in the wicket-taking charts, and the friendly rivalry between the pair has driven Middlesex’s success with the ball. Both will be central figures again here.

Prediction

With the weather forecast unsettled — including storm warnings for the opening day in Lancashire — and both sides prone to long draws, conditions may well dictate the outcome. Given Lancashire’s record of stalemates this season, another shared result feels likely.

Prediction: Match drawn

LIVE SCORES – Gloucestershire vs Northamptonshire, County Championship Division Two

Match Prediction – PMO: Gloucestershire v Northamptonshire

Gloucestershire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

It has been a frustrating season for Gloucestershire in the County Championship, with just one win from 12 matches leaving them near the bottom of the Division Two table. Yet, resilient draws against promoted Leicestershire and high-flying Middlesex have shown their fight, and with only pride to play for, they’ll be keen to avoid sliding further.

Ben Charlesworth impressed in the recent clash with Leicestershire, striking two well-crafted fifties — one played at a rapid tempo — to underline his promise at the top of the order. Middle-order batter Graeme van Buuren also shone, compiling a superb century at a strike rate of around 70, an innings full of intent and fluency. Both will be key if Gloucestershire are to put up big first-innings runs.

With the ball, Ajeet Singh Dale continues to be a consistent performer, his four wickets against Leicestershire taking him to 29 for the season from nine matches. Matt Taylor also delivered a standout five-for in that game, and the left-armer will be hungry to replicate that success against Northamptonshire.

Northamptonshire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Northamptonshire’s red-ball campaign has also fallen short of expectations, with just two wins and four defeats leaving them hovering above the foot of the table. With two difficult fixtures left, there is even the prospect of finishing bottom — a result that would be a major disappointment for supporters.

Saif Zaib has been the shining light with the bat, enjoying a superb season. He sits second in the competition’s run charts with 1,192 runs at an average above 66. His ability to convert starts has been remarkable, racking up six centuries — the most in Division Two — and he will be eyeing another here. Captain Luke Proctor provides stability, and his composed 67 against Glamorgan last week showed his value in setting the tone from the top of the order.

In the bowling department, leg-spinner Calvin Harrison has led the way with 35 wickets at 28.37, including a five-wicket haul against Glamorgan. He offers a real threat on wearing surfaces. Australian seamer Liam Guthrie has also impressed at times, his best return of 7 for 119 evidence of his ability to dismantle opposition line-ups when conditions suit.

Prediction

Gloucestershire have shown a tendency to grind out draws, while Northamptonshire are desperate to avoid further damage in a disappointing campaign. With mixed weather forecast and both sides struggling to convert opportunities into wins, another hard-fought stalemate looks the most likely outcome.

Prediction: Match drawn

Wicket Takers FIRSTCLASS

LIVE SCORES – Derbyshire vs Glamorgan, County Championship Division Two

Match Prediction – PMO: Derbyshire v Glamorgan

Derbyshire: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Derbyshire’s red-ball campaign has been defined by stubbornness rather than dominance. With just two wins from 12 matches, they nevertheless sit third in the Division Two table thanks to eight draws. However, two defeats in their last five games is a concern, and they will need to halt that slide quickly to protect their position near the top.

The batting has been led by Caleb Jewell and Wayne Madsen, both consistent performers with averages around 50 and close to 1,000 runs apiece this season. Jewell has registered eight half-centuries in 12 matches but only one hundred, while Madsen has converted more effectively with three centuries. Their ability to anchor innings remains crucial to Derbyshire’s hopes of a strong finish.

With the ball, Luis Reece has been outstanding. The left-arm seamer has claimed 39 wickets in just nine matches at an average of 20.64, including 12 scalps in his last three games. Zak Chappell has offered reliable support, taking 30 wickets in 12 matches, and could again be among the key figures in Derbyshire’s attack.

Glamorgan: Form Guide and Players to Watch

Glamorgan head into the run-in well placed for promotion, sitting second in the table and buoyed by two wins in their last three matches. Their balance between steady run-scoring and disciplined bowling has made them one of the division’s most effective sides this season.

Colin Ingram has once again been their rock with the bat, amassing 1,011 runs from just 10 matches, including three centuries and seven fifties. He will be expected to deliver again here. The spotlight also falls on Asa Tribe, who struck a magnificent double century in the previous round. With another hundred and three fifties to his name, Tribe will enter this contest brimming with confidence.

Timm van der Gugten has led the attack with 28 wickets in 11 matches at an average below 30, providing reliable pace and penetration. He is likely to be supported by Ben Kellaway, the versatile spinner who impressed during the Hundred and now has the chance to make an impact in the longer format.

Prediction

Derbyshire have been difficult to beat but have struggled to turn resilience into victories, while Glamorgan have consistently found ways to force results. With five wins already this season and promotion in their sights, the Welsh side look better equipped to capitalise — even with showers in the forecast.

Prediction: Glamorgan to win
