Trinbago Knight Riders extended their dominance in CPL 2025 with a fourth straight win – their fifth in six games – to open up a two-point cushion at the top of the leaderboard. On Saturday (August 30), they brushed aside Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, chasing down 163 with ease.

Having opted to bowl, Nicholas Pooran’s side struck early through Mohammad Amir and Akeal Hosein, who kept things tight in the PowerPlay. Amir had Gudakesh Motie miscue a swipe, while Hosein got Ben McDermott to hole out. Terrance Hinds then removed Moeen Ali as Guyana slipped to 37/3 after six overs.

Shai Hope and Hassan Khan briefly revived the innings, but Hosein returned to dent it further with two wickets in his final over, including Shimron Hetmyer’s. At 70/5, the innings was wobbling, only for Hope and Romario Shepherd to stitch together 38 runs. Their stand ended when Shepherd lost his stumps trying to slog Sunil Narine, who conceded just 17 in his four overs. Hope (39 off 29) departed soon after in bizarre fashion, knocking over his stumps with a reverse-sweep attempt against Hinds.

From 117/7 in the 17th over, debutant Quentin Simpson and Dwayne Pretorius provided a late surge, adding 36 in two overs before a 10-run finish took Guyana to 163/9.

That total proved inadequate against Trinbago’s flying start. Alex Hales and Colin Munro smashed 77 in the PowerPlay and took the score to 115 without loss in 10 overs. Only a three-wicket over from Imran Tahir, where he dismissed Munro (52 off 30), Pooran first ball, and Keacy Carty with a terrific wrong ‘un, offered Guyana a brief reprieve.

Hales, who survived a run-out mix-up with Kieron Pollard, eventually fell for a 43-ball 74 laced with seven sixes, hitting a Tahir long hop to deep midwicket. But the chase was already sealed. Pollard and Andre Russell ensured there were no further stumbles, taking TKR home with 16 balls to spare.

Brief scores: Guyana Amazon Warriors 163/9 in 20 overs (Shai Hope 39; Akeal Hosein 3-27, Sunil Narine 1-17) lost to Trinbago Knight Riders 169/4 in 17.2 overs (Alex Hales 74, Colin Munro 52; Imran Tahir 4-27) by six wickets.
