Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan endured a night to forget in England’s The Hundred on Tuesday, recording the most expensive bowling figures in the tournament’s history without taking a wicket.

Representing Oval Invincibles against Birmingham Phoenix at Edgbaston, Rashid conceded 59 runs in his allotted 20 balls (four overs) and failed to claim a single wicket. This was not only his worst performance in The Hundred but also his most expensive spell in any T20 match.

The damage was done mainly by Birmingham’s hard-hitting middle-order batter Liam Livingstone, who smashed an unbeaten 69 off just 27 balls. In the final stretch of Rashid’s spell — between the 76th and 80th deliveries of Phoenix’s chase — Livingstone launched a brutal assault, hitting three consecutive sixes and two fours off the Afghan spinner’s bowling.

Livingstone’s onslaught powered Phoenix to a successful run chase, sealing victory by four wickets with two balls to spare.

With figures of 0/59, Rashid now holds the record for most runs conceded in a single match in The Hundred. Remarkably, Livingstone also became the first batter to score over 200 T20 runs against Rashid Khan in his career; no other batter has reached even 150 against him.

Rashid, considered one of the world’s top T20 bowlers, has been struggling for form since undergoing back surgery after the 2023 World Cup.

Most runs conceded by a bowler in The Hundred:

Rashid Khan – 4 overs – 59 runs – 0 wickets
David Wiese – 4 overs – 53 runs – 1 wicket
DA Payne – 4 overs – 53 runs – 1 wicket
ST Finn – 3 overs – 51 runs – 2 wickets
CP Wood – 4 overs – 49 runs – 0 wickets
