Southern Brave moved to the top of the Women’s Hundred table with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Northern Superchargers at Southampton on Tuesday (August 13). The hosts chased down a modest target with 17 balls to spare, securing their third consecutive win of the campaign. For the Superchargers, this marked their first defeat after two victories, as they were bowled out for 102 before Brave cruised to the target.

Superchargers endured a disappointing batting display after opting to bat, with early wickets derailing their innings. They lost Alice Davidson-Richards and Phoebe Litchfield inside the first 19 deliveries and could only muster 22 runs during the powerplay period (25 deliveries). Despite a fighting knock of 36 from skipper Hollie Armitage, the innings never gained momentum as wickets fell regularly throughout. Barring Armitage, only one other batter reached 20, highlighting the Superchargers’ collective batting struggle as they just about managed to cross 100.

Sophie Devine was the pick of the Brave bowlers, claiming three wickets for just 15 runs from her 20 balls, including dismissing both Lucy Higham and Linsey Smith in consecutive deliveries after having earlier removed Litchfield. Georgia Adams provided excellent support with two wickets, while Lauren Bell and Mady Villiers each took one wicket to complete a disciplined bowling performance that restricted the visitors to a below-par total.

Southern Brave’s response was measured and professional. Despite losing Maia Bouchier early for just 5, caught off Kate Cross’s bowling, the home side remained in control throughout their chase. Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Laura Wolvaardt’s 62-run stand, off 45 balls, guided the team towards the target. Wyatt-Hodge struck five boundaries before being stumped by Bess Heath off Katherine Fraser’s bowling with the target almost within reach. Wolvaardt remained unbeaten on 30 from 27, guiding her team over the line alongside Devine, who struck the only six of the match.

Brief scores: Northern Superchargers 102 in 100 balls (Hollie Armitage 36, Annabel Sutherland 20; Sophie Devine 3-15, Georgia Adams 2-20) lost to Southern Brave 103/2 in 83 balls (Danielle Wyatt-Hodge 43, Laura Wolvaardt 33*; Katherine Fraser 1-11) by 8 wickets.
