Pakistan Champions’ spinner Saeed Ajmal made history on Tuesday by delivering the best bowling performance in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) so far.

Playing against Australia Champions at Grace Road in Leicester, Ajmal took 6 wickets for just 16 runs in 3.5 overs. This is now the best bowling figure in WCL history and also marks the first-ever five-wicket haul in the tournament.

Before Ajmal’s heroics, the record for the best figures belonged to West Indies Champions’ Fidel Edwards, who took 4 for 11 against England Champions earlier in the season.

Best bowling figures in WCL history:

Saeed Ajmal (Pakistan) – 6/16 vs Australia
Fidel Edwards (West Indies) – 4/11 vs England
Aaron Phangiso (South Africa) – 4/13 vs Australia
Stuart Meaker (England) – 4/24 vs West Indies
Ajmal Shahzad (England) – 4/31 vs India

Ajmal started his spell by removing Ben Dunk, Australia’s top scorer, who hit 26 runs off 14 balls with three fours and two sixes. In the same over, Ajmal claimed two more wickets, sparking a quick collapse in the Australian batting lineup.

He returned in his next over to dismiss Ben Cutting, moving closer to a five-wicket haul. Ajmal completed the record in his final over by taking the wickets of Peter Siddle and Steve O’Keefe, ending Australia Champions’ innings at just 74 runs in 11.5 overs.

Pakistan Champions chased down the small target in just 7.5 overs without losing a wicket. Openers Sharjeel Khan and Sohaib Maqsood remained unbeaten on 32 and 28, respectively, giving Pakistan a thumping 10-wicket win.

Ajmal’s record-breaking spell played a key role in Pakistan Champions’ dominant performance, taking them to the top of the WCL 2025 points table.
