ACC president Mohsin Naqvi confirms dates for Asia Cup 2025

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has officially announced that the Asia Cup 2025 will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.

The announcement was made on Saturday through Naqvi’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), where he confirmed the tournament window and said the detailed schedule will be released soon.

“I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in UAE. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th,” he posted.

“We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket! Detailed schedule will be out soon,” he further wrote.

According to reports, the tournament will feature eight teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, UAE, and Oman. A total of 19 matches will be played during the event, including the final on the 28th of September.

The Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format. India and Pakistan are expected to be in the same group, which could lead to three high-voltage matches between the arch-rivals — one in the group stage, another in the Super Four, and possibly in the final.

Earlier this year, there were rumours that India might skip the Asia Cup, but the BCCI denied those reports. More recently, a promotional poster featuring only India and Sri Lanka had raised questions about Pakistan’s participation, especially given the ongoing political tensions between the two nations.

However, based on the agreement between the PCB and BCCI, India and Pakistan are only set to meet in ICC or ACC tournaments, which must be held at neutral venues. This ensures their potential clash in the UAE will not be affected by political differences.
