Tim David smashed a stunning maiden T20I century as Australia defeated West Indies by six wickets in the third T20I at Basseterre on Friday, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Chasing a tough target of 215, Australia reached the total in just 16.1 overs, thanks to David’s explosive knock of 102 not out from only 37 balls. His innings included six fours and 11 sixes, making it one of the fastest and most powerful displays in Australian T20I history.

David broke the record for the fastest T20I fifty by an Australian, reaching the mark in just 16 balls, beating Marcus Stoinis’ previous record of 17 balls. He then went on to complete his century in 37 balls, also the fastest T20I hundred by an Australian, surpassing Josh Inglis’ 43-ball effort. He was named Player of the Match for his exceptional performance.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first. West Indies made the most of the batting-friendly pitch, posting 214 for four. Captain Shai Hope led the way with a brilliant 102 off 57 balls, hitting eight fours and six sixes. Opener Brandon King supported him well, scoring 62 runs.

In response, Australia came out all guns blazing. Apart from David’s heroics, Mitchell Owen also played a quick unbeaten knock of 36 off 16 balls to help finish the game with 23 balls remaining.

With this win, Australia have already sealed the series. The remaining two matches will be played on July 27 and 29, giving West Indies a chance to bounce back and avoid a clean sweep.
