Stats highlights from Kingston where West Indies team touched historic lows in what was Mitchell Starc’s match of milestones.

Record lows for West Indies

27 all out by West Indies is the second-lowest total in the history of Tests which spans 148 years and 2595 matches. The only lowest total is 26 by New Zealand against England in Auckland in 1955. West Indies’ previous lowest total also came at this venue – 47 against England in 2004.

Lowest totals in Tests

Team Score Against Venue Season New Zealand 26 England Auckland 1954/55 West Indies 27 Australia Kingston 2025 South Africa 30 England Gqeberha 1895/96 South Africa 30 England Birmingham 1924 South Africa 35 England Cape Town 1898/99 South Africa 36 Australia Melbourne 1931/32 Australia 36 England Birmingham 1902 India 36 Australia Adelaide 2020/21

14.3 overs batted by West Indies is the third-lowest in which a team got bowled out in a Test innings. The lowest remains 12.3 overs by South Africa against England at Edgbaston in 1924 followed by Sri Lanka’s 13.5 overs against South Africa in Durban last year.

1 This was the first instance of West Indies getting whitewashed at home in a series of three or more Tests. This was their 53rd series of 3+ Tests at home in 95 years.

120 wickets have fallen in this series with both West Indies and Australia getting bowled out in each of the six innings they batted. This is only the second such instance in a 3-Test series after India’s tour to South Africa in 2018.

Mitchell Starc smashes records in milestone Test

19064 balls taken by Starc to get to 400 wickets is the second quickest in terms of balls bowled behind Dale Steyn’s 16634 balls. Starc is the fourth Australian to the milestone after Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, and Nathan Lyon.

2 Starc became only the second bowler to pick three wickets in the first over of an innings after India’s Irfan Pathan, who took a first-over hat-trick against Pakistan in Karachi in 2006. Starc now has 23 wickets in the first over of an innings, second only to James Anderson’s 29, where ball by ball data is available.

15 balls taken by Starc to get his five-fer makes it the quickest in the history of Tests beating the previous quickest of 19 balls each by Ernie Toshack against India in Brisbane in 1947, Stuart Broad against Australia in Trent Bridge in 2015, and Scott Boland against England at the MCG in 2021.

4.3 overs The time in which Starc completed his five-wicket haul – the earliest a bowler got to the milestone in an innings. The previous fastest was 6.1 overs by Stuart Broad against Australia in Trent Bridge in 2015.

6/9 by Starc is the best figures by any bowler in their 100th Test beating 6/54 by Muralitharan against Bangladesh in Chattogram in 2006. Shane Warne is the only other bowler with a six-fer in their 100th Test appearance.

A nightmare for West Indies batters

7 batters were dismissed for ducks in West Indies’ innings – the most ever in a Test innings, the previous most being six ducks which that happened nine times each.

6 runs aggregated by West Indies’ top six is the lowest aggregate by the top six in a Test innings. The previous lowest being 12 runs by Australia against England at the SCG in 1888 while West Indies’ 14 runs against Australia at the MCG in 2000 is the lowest since the start of 20th century.
