Mohammad Amir’s impressive bowling effort was not enough to save Essex from yet another defeat in the ongoing Vitality Blast 2025, as they fell to Somerset by 95 runs at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton.

Somerset, batting first after being sent in, posted a massive total of 225 for 6 in their 20 overs. Tom Kohler-Cadmore led the charge with a brilliant 90 off just 39 balls, smashing boundaries all around the ground. He received good support from Will Smeed (32 off 20), Sean Dickson (28*), and captain Lewis Gregory (18), while Ben Green chipped in with 13 runs.

Amir was the standout bowler for Essex, picking up 3 wickets for just 22 runs in his four-over spell. He dismissed Tom Banton, Lewis Gregory, and Ben Green to keep Somerset in check.

However, Essex’s batting faltered badly in the chase. They were bowled out for just 130 runs in 14.1 overs. Noah Thain was the only batter to offer some resistance, scoring 38 off 17 balls. Paul Walter added a quick 24, while skipper Simon Harmer contributed 20 runs. Amir finished with 5 runs from 5 balls.

Matt Henry starred with the ball for Somerset, taking 4 wickets for 21 runs. Riley Meredith and Craig Overton also made key contributions, claiming two wickets each.

With this heavy defeat, Essex remain at the bottom of the points table with just one win in 11 matches. They have lost nine games and collected only six points so far in the tournament.

Despite Essex’s poor run, Amir has continued to deliver with the ball. The left-arm pacer has taken 15 wickets in 11 matches this season, maintaining an economy rate of 9.09.
