Jon Lewis, head coach of UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), has parted ways with the franchise. It brings to an end a three-year stint with the Warriorz, the franchise announced in a social media post on Friday (June 27).

Lewis, the former English fast bowler, had early success with the Warriorz in the first year of the WPL. He oversaw the franchise finish in third place in 2023 before they were eliminated by Mumbai Indians, the eventual champions of that season.

Despite the bright start, the team followed it up with two poor finishes in 2024 and 2025. They finished 4th in 2024 and, most recently, held the wooden spoon in 2025. Amidst injuries to key players and a new captain at the helm in Deepti Sharma in 2025, the UPW struggled with consistency and team balance for the majority of the season leading to a poor finish.

The Warriorz do hold the record for the highest total in WPL history scoring 225 for 5 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, earlier this year which was headlined by Georgia Voll’s unbeaten 99.

During his stint with the Warriorz, Lewis was also the head coach of the England’s Women’s team and was performing a dual role. He had been appointed as head coach of England from November 2022. However, it continues to be a tough year for Lewis as the Englishman had stepped down from his role in March following the team’s 16-0 mauling to Australia in the Women’s Ashes, earlier this year.
