Cricket South Africa (CSA) has unveiled a new-look squad for the upcoming T20I tri-nation series in Zimbabwe, set to be played in Harare from July 14 to 26. The series will also feature New Zealand.

With regular captain Aiden Markram and several senior players rested for workload management, experienced batter Rassie van der Dussen will take charge of the team. This series marks the beginning of South Africa’s preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The squad includes several fresh faces. Young opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who was the top scorer in this year’s SA20 tournament, has earned his maiden international call-up. Wicketkeeper-batter Rubin Hermann and all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy are also in line to make their T20I debuts, while Corbin Bosch — already capped in ODIs and Tests — has also been included for his first appearance in T20 internationals.

Star youngster Dewald Brevis returns to the national side after nearly two years, while fast bowlers Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee make a comeback following injury lay-offs. Both are currently participating in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States.

Shukri Conrad, recently appointed as South Africa’s all-format head coach, will oversee his first T20I series.

“This T20I tri-series marks the start of our preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup,” Conrad said.

“With several senior players rested as part of their workload management, it creates space for these players to step in and show what they can offer, and bring them into contention for World Cup selection. Lhuan-dre and Rubin have been rewarded for their outstanding domestic form in the SA20 and we’re excited to see how they adapt to the demands of international cricket,” he added.

The tri-nation series will follow a round-robin format, with the top two teams progressing to the final on July 26.

South Africa squad:

Rassie van der Dussen (captain), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, Reeza Hendricks, Rubin Hermann, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Nqaba Peter, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Andile Simelane.

T20I Tri-Nation Series Schedule (Harare Sports Club):

July 14: Zimbabwe vs South Africa
July 16: South Africa vs New Zealand
July 18: Zimbabwe vs New Zealand
July 20: Zimbabwe vs South Africa
July 22: New Zealand vs South Africa
July 24: Zimbabwe vs New Zealand
