Bangladesh’s veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim created multiple records on day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium.

Rahim scored a brilliant 163 off 350 balls, registering his 12th Test century and becoming the oldest non-opener to score a Test hundred. He achieved the feat at 38 years and 39 days, surpassing Pakistan’s Younis Khan, who previously held the record with a century against Sri Lanka in 2015 at the age of 37 years and 216 days.

The Bangladesh star also overtook Mohammad Ashraful to become the highest Test run-scorer for his country on Sri Lankan soil.

In addition to those milestones, Rahim entered the record books with a rare achievement — becoming the player with the most international runs (15,502) without bowling a single delivery in his career. He went past Australia’s legendary wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, who had 15,461 international runs.

Players with most international runs without bowling a ball:

Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh) – 15,502
Adam Gilchrist (Australia) – 15,461
Quinton de Kock (South Africa) – 12,654
Jos Buttler (England) – 11,881
Jonny Bairstow (England) – 11,581

Rahim played a key role in Bangladesh’s strong batting performance, building two significant partnerships — 264 with Najmul Hossain Shanto and 149 with Litton Das. Shanto made 148 off 279 balls, while Litton scored 90 before falling short of his hundred.

Despite a dominant start, Bangladesh lost momentum after a two-hour rain delay. Sri Lanka mounted a strong fightback, claiming five wickets for just 37 runs.

Sri Lanka made a strong start to their innings on day three, thanks to Pathum Nissanka’s brilliant 187. They ended the day at 368 for 4
