As the curtain fell on the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–2025 cycle with South Africa clinching their historic maiden ICC title, several individual performances stood out across the two-year cycle.
While the Proteas scripted history with their win over Australia in the final at Lord’s, it was England’s Joe Root and Australia’s Pat Cummins who dominated the charts with the bat and ball, respectively.
England’s Joe Root topped the run charts with a phenomenal 1,968 runs in 22 matches at an average of 54.66. His WTC campaign featured 7 centuries and 7 fifties, with a highest score of 262 against Pakistan. Root’s consistency reaffirmed his status as one of the finest test batters of this generation.
india’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had a breakthrough cycle, scoring 1,798 runs in 19 matches at an average of 52.88. His highest score of 214 not out and a tally of 4 centuries reflected his growing stature in red-ball cricket.
England’s Ben Duckett (1,470 runs) and Harry Brook (1,463 runs) were close behind, both scoring heavily across multiple series. Brook’s top score of 317 was the highest individual score of the WTC cycle.
Australia’s Usman Khawaja also had a strong showing with 1,428 runs at an average of 39.66, including two centuries and six fifties.

Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins led the bowling charts with 80 wickets in 18 matches, including six five-wicket hauls. His match-winning spells and leadership were pivotal in guiding Australia to the WTC final.
India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t far behind, grabbing 77 wickets in just 15 Tests at a stunning average of 15.09. Bumrah’s economical spells and fiery pace made him one of the standout bowlers of the cycle.
Mitchell Starc matched Bumrah’s tally with 77 wickets of his own, while off-spinner Nathan Lyon claimed 66 wickets, reinforcing Australia’s bowling strength throughout the WTC.
Former India’s spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finished with 63 wickets, including a best of 7/71.

While the individual charts were dominated by players from England, Australia, and India, it was South Africa who had the last laugh. Under the leadership of Temba Bavuma, they defeated Australia in the WTC final at Lord’s, sealing their first-ever ICC trophy in 26 years and their maiden World Test Championship title.
Their triumph not only marked a new era in South African cricket but also ended a long-standing wait for silverware at the highest level.
