Sam Curran’s hopes of a Test comeback have been put on hold as he undergoes surgery on a groin injury.

The Surrey all-rounder had been expected to join England for the ongoing Pakistan series, potentially earning what would have been his first Test appearance since 2021.

But Curran has been booked in for an operation following the conclusion of The Hundred, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

“Sam Curran has been assessed for a groin injury and will undergo surgery on Friday. He will not be available for the remainder of the home season,” a Surrey statement read.

Curran’s team-mate Will Jacks has also been ruled out of the Pakistan Test series after having his appendix removed, but Surrey confirmed he was recovering ahead of the white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

“Will Jacks is currently recovering after a successful operation to remove his appendix. We will monitor his recovery and assess his availability ahead of the Sri Lanka series,” the Surrey statement concluded.
