Essex Cricket are happy to announce that Essex Women’s Abtaha Maqsood has signed a contract extension with the Club.

Maqsood, 26, has signed a new two-year deal with Essex Cricket that will keep her at the Club until the end of the 2027 season.

On signing her new deal, Maqsood said: “I am delighted that I have the opportunity to extend my time at Essex.

“I have learned a lot during my time here and I am excited to continue my progression with the Club.

“We have an amazing group and I cannot wait to get going with them again and help to contribute to more success next season.”

The leg-spinner featured in 27 matches for Essex Women during the 2025 season, claiming 22 wickets. Alongside representing Essex, Maqsood is an important asset to Scotland Women and, to date, has taken a total of 78 wickets across ODIs and T20Is combined.

The Scottish international’s journey began at the age of 12 when she represented Scotland’s Under 17 team in 2013, before making her senior debut for the Scots in 2018 in a T20I against Uganda Women.

Essex Women’s Performance Director, Danni Warren said: “We are delighted that Abtaha has signed an extension to her contract.

“Abtaha’s value to our team was underlined last season, taking wickets at crucial times and further growing into her role as a leader in our bowling unit.

“Everyone at Essex is extremely proud to see Abtaha represent her country, Scotland, and watching her flourish with them has been fantastic.

“We cannot wait to support her in her preparations for both international and domestic cricket ahead of the 2026 season.”
